I have a 5 yr. old GE side by side refrigerator. The water dispenser in the freezer door recently stopped providing water. When pushed you can hear a motor engaged, but no water. The unit still produces and dispenses crushed and cubed ice
I have moved the temperature setting of the "crisper" unit to the lowest level.
Any suggestions
Its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
Identical problem with my 4 year old GE side-by-side. Several times in the past year the water dispenser quit working while everything else worked fine. My freezer setting was 5. I lowered it to 3. A day later the dispenser worked and has worked fine for about 6 months. BTW-The refrig started 'moaning' (freezer fan) badly about 4 months ago. After some research found out the circuit card was suspect. Replaced the card and the moaning stopped. Everything now works great.
I fixed mine by leaving the light on the dispenser on. It took about 6 hrs, but the little heat from the light bulb was enough to defrost the water line.

ge side by side fridge water line freeze how do i fix it .i have unplug fridge for 8 hour working again for now.
This problem is pervasive in GE side by side refrigerators. The water line in the freezer door is freezing and stopping the flow of water to the dispensor. I harrassed GE until they sent me a new door for free, but I had to install it myself, which was not easy. I've seen posts by others that used a hair dryer to thaw the line, but that is a temporary fix, as (according to GE) the problem is actually caused by a minor leak in the water line, so it will re-occur. The quote from GE to fix this was over $600!
My icemaker is filling up with water, but will not push out the icecubes after freezing....how can I trouble shoot and repair?
