Most stackers have a frame which goes around the top of the washer and a lip above which the dryer sits on. If you cant get the correct frame, ive seen Customers who sit the dryer on a towel above the machine and then at the back, use a couple of metal straps that have been screwed into the dryer and top of washer using the original screws that hold the backs on both machines.
Could be, but often a loud banging means that drum bearings have failed. Replacement is probably prohibitively expensive if it is done professionally. The parts are expensive and it is a big job. Even though I do my own repairs, I decided it was time for a new washer when this happened.
If it runs but no heat that is probably your heating element. I recently worked on one of theses and got my grandson to snap a few photos of the repair. 417.91702000 Broken dryer belt and felt replacement

Your model number ain't a good one so I just had these photos in my PC and I have worked on one like that before. If the panel dont come off the front like this: then it is like the photo above. See kenmore makes a stack frigidaire washer dryer like this here but they also make a direct drive thin twin. Here is a service Manual I believe it is you it covers 4 models and is 136 pages
On that model it's easy to unscrew the front and take it off. You can then see the hoses etc to see where the water is coming from. I had to replace the drain hose on mine.
