You might want to look for any broken gears where the chute pivots and anything that might be bent not allowing for any total movement. Plus check to see if the gears are making contact.

SOURCE: snow thrower won't throw snow

the problem could be the snow is to heavy for the motor to keep up, if thats the case you may need to upgrade to a more powerful model or try not to overload it. take it a little slower so the motor can keep up. but try tightening the belt. with your pointer finger push down on the belt it should have about a half inch give, if it moves more than that its too loose and probably slipping under load

SOURCE: MTD YARD MACHINE SNOW BLOWER DOES NTO SHIFT INTO

Many times moisture attacks the hexagon shaft that the friction disc assembly slides on. It slides from side to side on the shaft to create Reverse 1 & 2, and the other end creates 1-6 forward. With a wire brush and sandpaper, clean the rust from the hexagon shaft, at the same time lubricate the friction disc bearing with penetrating oil and with a soft hammer, tap gently until the assembly starts to slide on the hexagon shaft. After all the rust is removed and disc assembly is sliding, apply a light film of graphite grease on the shaft. You may want to re-lubricate on a yearly basis.

SOURCE: how to adjust a 9460897 mtd snow blower auger

On the handle end (usually) of the cable is a curved metal connector. Attached to the connector is a threaded rod with a nut. Attach a pair of pliers to the threaded cylinder that the threaded rod goes into. Loosen the nut. Turn the threaded cylinder into the threaded rod to tighten or out to loosen. When you have the correct adjustment, tighten the nut back down onto the cylinder. To be correctly adjusted, pull the cover off the auger belt and push down on the handle. The spring attached to the cable at the pulley end should stretch out when the handle is fully depressed. Spring tension keeps the belt tight. iaff801.jpg

How to Know What Kind of Snow Blower to Buy.

Snow blowers are great for places where snow is a regular feature in the weather as uncleared snow can not only block access but also cause a danger.
There are 4 very different styles of snow blowers and i'll explain some of the differences.

Width:
The width measurement ie 24 inches or 26 inches, makes a big difference to the ease with which you can turn the snow blower. So if using a wider machine might be a challenge for you - bear it in mind.

Snow chute:
Some machines allow you to direct the direction of the snow chute ie you can make it go left or right. Some machines need you to direct the snow output ie whether it goes up and down using a manual button. Where as more expensive machines tend to have one handle that allows you to control all the directional factors.

Engine Size:
The smaller engines are not as powerful as the bigger ones. If the area you plan to use it has moderate to light snow, you might be fine with a smaller engine, but if the snow you need to clear is heavy and frequent, you should consider a bigger engine. The larger engine sizes allow the snow blowers to turn faster and more powerfully.

Stay safe and make sure that you dont' let children play around with snow blowing equipment.

How do I stop the shute on my dual stage snow blower from moving on its own while blowing snow

There are clamps holding the chute to the impeller housing on the underside. These can often wear and loosen with time. I would first check these for wear and tightness. Tighten if loose or replace if excessively worn.

Need a parts manual broken chute control cable

I tried searspartsdirect and they don't show that model. Not sure if it's the right number as it doesn't look like their number. Usually their model numbers have three numbers a period and some more numbers.
Does the machine says Sears on it ??
How new is it ?? Is it gas or electric ??
