You will probably need to make an appointment at the nearest Social Security office and go there to apply for Social Security survivor benefits, because, among other things, you will need to provide a certified copy of the child's birth certificate and a certified copy of the deceased parent's d3@th (have to spell it that way or Fixya considers it a profanity) certificate.
