I don't know exactly as I have had no experience with forced air paraffin or kerosene heaters of this design but I would guess an ideal flame would be blue, though an ideal flame is likely to be difficult to achieve and there is likely to be some yellow flickering tips to the flame.
A large amount of yellow indicates the heater either had an excess of fuel or insufficient combustion air - either way it is inefficient, producing less heat and creating soot that will soon worsen matters. Below are a couple of links you might find useful...

SOURCE: have monitor 422, have had it serviced and flame
JM,
When you have a smell from a Monitor you have a real problem. You need to get to the bottom of the problem as soon as possible due to the chance of CO gas. If the heater was just serviced I would look at the connection for the exhaust on the back of the stove. The little Z pipe needs to be all the way in on both sides. Monitors are close to the wall and sometimes it's very hard to get that pipe all the way in. Since it is a serious problem I would look at all the gaskets on the burner and heat exchanger to be sure none are missing or broken.
I can't stress this enough. If you are smelling fumes from a Monitor you must get to the bottom of it before you continue to use the heater.

SOURCE: is the monitor 422 heater considered a direct vent wall heater
Yes, the Monitor 422 heater is direct vent type.
You must install the supplied double-walled vent tube between the heater and outdoors. Failure to properly install the vent tube will quickly deplete oxygen from the space it is operating in. That is a potentially deadly situation.
The pipe is special. The inner pipe is for hot exhaust gasses to be sent outside and the outer walled pipe is for fresh combustion air to be brought into the heater. This set up is why the heater does not create drafts in the home.
