SOURCE: PROBLEM WITH DOMETIC RV ROOFTOP AIR conditioner

Check at the compressor terminals between the Red and the terminal for the overload protector to see if you are getting power to the compressor on startup.

SOURCE: How to put refrigerant in Demotic RV Rooftop Air Conditioner

You will need to add a self tapping port to the suction side of the unit. You will have to determine what the size of the pipe is and then go to a local a/c supply company and buy one. It's kind of like a self tapping supply for water but for high pressure. Hope this helps. I would also put one in on the high side as well so you don't blow the valve in the compressor if you over charge it or the system is dirty.

SOURCE: odor when air conditioner turned on

Hi, If its a smell other then electrical burning, I would say it is coming from the evaporator coil inside. Take out the filter and clean it if it is the washable type and try and clean the coil. They make coil cleaner you may be able to get at your RV dealer to do this. This is the only thing I can think of that would have any odor. Unless there is something outside it is drawing in. The system is sealed and would not emit any odors other then a hot motor. You can check up top by removing cover to check the motors and to see if any critters have crawled inside. Let me no, keep me posed on what you find and if you need more help.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7
PS Check the indoor blower motor also, it may be getting hot and ready to fail.

SOURCE: Rooftop RV Air Conditioner: replaced capacitor on dometic 59516-531 steal trip...

You need to borrow a clamp on style amp gauge, and check amp draw on black wire in box where hydro wires connect. (PLEASE, be careful, and if not experienced in this type of test, don't try it, due to likelihood of getting a shock. ) If it's the compressor kicking in that's causing the breaker to trip, and capacitor is good, then it's usually a problem with either low incoming (supply) 110-120 AC voltage, which will cause high amperage draw, or compressor on it's way out causing high amp draw. If it's only drawing 15-18 amps, and your tripping a 20 amp breaker, then breaker is getting weak.

Rv ac throws the breaker when outside temp gets high, unit works fine at night when outside temp cools down

Clean evap and cond coils
Place hand on a/c if too hot during the day but cool at night
then freon is being restricted in the condensor
Cleaning coils may help days
Put a trickle of water on the condensor during the day for a test.

Efficiency of RV Rooftop Units Deteriorating???

If the overall effectiveness of you RV Rooftop AC seems to be much less than the day you bought, here is a simple procedure to keep it running cold and prolong the life of the unit.

Problems:
1. Air seems to not be blowing as cold as before
2. Compressor trips breaker during the hottest part of the day
3. Air at night works just fine but is lacking during the day

These problems can often be solved by simply cleaning out the condenser coil of the upper unit. You will need a phillips screwdriver and a water hose with a nozzle on it.

- Remove the upper shroud from the unit
- Gently spray water through the condenser coil watching from the fan side. BE CAREFUL, do not spray with too high of pressure nor sideways. Make sure you keep the nozzle spraying directly at the coils.
- Once the water begins to flow clearly through the condenser, you should be good to go. Make sure you get as much of the condenser clean as possible.

This will save the life of many RV Air Conditioners.

My rv air conditioner works fine at night but only clicks on during the day for about three minute intervals. It seems like the compresor should work harder during the peak heat.

First thing I'd check is the hydro supply to your RV. Test voltage at both times and see if it is the same. You can even buy a plug in tester if necessary, that plugs in to receptacles. It may be a case of everyone around you has AC etc on during the day and your incoming voltage has been lowered, thus AC will not work correctly, and at night when some others are off, your voltage comes back up to where AC will function properly. Especially likely if you are near the end of a power cable run. If you have access to a good generator even temporarily, try plugging into that during the day and see if it doesn't make a difference.

The airconditioner is drawing too many amps and is tripping the breaker during the day at night it seems to run ok

Check the condenser fan and see if it is running. If it's not it will cause the head pressure to rise and the unit will work harder. This will be more noticable in the heat of the day. Also check your air filter. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

My r/t air conditioner will not cool down pass 83 degrees during the hottest part of the day.

Have you checked the filters to make sure they are clean?
If they're clogged they'll prevent the unit from cooling.
