In the bottom of th e 5610 there are 2 automatic reset breakers. In betwene the two there is wire connecting them together. In the middle of this wire is a thermal resister and thats what repaired mine. Replace it and your heater will heat again.

There is a short in the wiring were the hinge is at. You can take into a camera store or Best Buy and see what it would cost to replace the wiring in there.

SOURCE: Canon XL1. Unable to playback tape in camcorder

I have the solution that the canon expert forgot to mention. And this solved my exact problem too. I put in the tape and then shut the white door over top. This doesn't engage the tape. Problem solved. Human error, The fix cost nothing.

SOURCE: Canon ZR90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder no power even

Batteries may need to be recharged or replaced if the error persists after battery recharge or replacement the unit may require a service evaluation. If the batteries currently in the device and it is not working properly, remove the batteries and wait for 30 seconds and re-insert the batteries. In doing so if your camera has a back-up or date and time battery, remove this battery as well. Removal of the back-up battery will cause a full reset of the camera and will clear any settings, including date and time.

Flashing Red Light....

The flashing "boat" in the middle of the viewfinder just means the button battery is dead. Camera will still work. It's the little pull-out light grey plastic thing that's next to the heel of your right hand when you're using the camera normally. You need a CR2025 cell.

It is nearly 14 years old. I should give it an honourable retirement, and purchase a more modern replacement.

Problems after 1 year of no usage

I would take into a shop and have them look at it. There appears to be something in the electronics that isn't comming up if it isn't working with a new battery or when it's plugged into an electrical outlet.
