Do you want to do the print head alignment from a computer or from the printer? If you are using a computer, what OS is installed and did you install the Canon full software package?

In any case, first load the printer with A4 or letter size white paper (at least two sheets) and make sure to set the paper size to that format. Make sure that none of the ink cartridges are reporting low ink. If a cartridge is low, replace that ink cartridge before continuing. (The printer must be on.)

If you are doing the print head alignment from the printer, press the Setup button (with the screw driver and pliers) several times until 4 is displayed on the LCD. Press the Black & White or Color copy button. Once the alignment sheet has been printed, carefully pick up the sheet without touching the areas with ink. Place the sheet print side down on the scanner glass. Make sure that the alignment mark on the bottom right corner is aligned with the alignment mark on the corner of the scanner frame (left side of the printer near the hinge of the document cover). Close the document cover and press the Black & White or Color copy button. Wait for the flashing lights to stop before moving the document cover or alignment sheet. If you see the Alarm light flash, press OK and take the appropriate action based on the error message.

From a Windows OS computer, open the Canon LJ Printer Assistant Tool. Click the Custom Settings link. Check the box for Align Heads Manually and check any other appropriate settings. Click OK and then OK for Apply these settings to the printer. Press Start on the Print Head Alignment. Do not open the printer cover. Once the alignment sheets are printed, look them over and answer the questions on whether the alignment looks correct for all of the rows and columns. See https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART167892&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1577398967983 for the pictures of the correct alignment sheet.

From a Macintosh, you need to use the Remote UI. Then select Utilities and then Auto Head Alignment. Follow the on-screen directions.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Error 5100 - what does this mean?

Hi Luza, A 5100 error is a carriage problem. That means it could be the code strip, carriage assembly or logic board. First make sure nothing is keeping the print head from moving all the way across the printer. If the smallest thing blocks the head from going all the way across it will generate this error. You'll want to look hard for ANY obstructions anywhere. Throughly check the gears and rollers for obstructions too. Second the code strip (or timing strip) is the 1/4 inch plastic strip that runs across the printer and through the head carriage. It's got supports on both sides. If becomes dislodged it will generate this error. (it's got a tesnsion spring on one end) I have a feeling that is your problem. That somehow when you replaced the cartridges you may have dislodged the code strip. That might account for not being able to correctly align the print head too. Make sure it's straight, level and secure. Also make sure it's not dirty. Grease or dirt on the code strip can generate a 5100 error. You can clean it with a damp cloth (water) but be careful if your going to remove it from it's anchors. You can try cleaning the steele bar that the carriage runs across as well, but you'll have to lube it back up with a cloth dampened with some 3 in 1 oil or a light machine oil. If none of that works and your ABSOLUTLY SURE there is nothing in there blocking the printer then it must be either the carriage assembly or logic board. If either is the problem you're going to need service on the unit or a new printer. I hope this helps. Please let me know how you make out, Dude

SOURCE: Using the Canon PIXMA MP240 printer wirelessly

In order to do this, the laptops have to be able to communicate with each other wirelessly. I.e., you have to have a wireless network set up. If you do, then you are "printer sharing", using one laptop as the 'printer server' (with the printer connected to it) and the other as the 'client'. Step by step instructions are available at this link. Type "printer sharing" in the search box in the center of the screen and click on the Search button. Select the option that matches your requirements.

SOURCE: Alignment of printhead on Canon Pixma iP4600

This is simply a case of the ink tanks not being pressed in hard enough. They do click in, as the manual instructs but, unless they are fully pressed in top and bottom, this problem occurs. It's a shame that the Canon manuals and even the support centre do not mention this simple solution.

Canon pixma mp530 not printing colour. The cartridges are new, when I print an alignment, no colour prints, only the black and white. I've performed a clean, deep clean, print head alignment, nozzle...

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Banding

Unfortunately, one choice Canon made to keep the price low was to eliminate automatic alignment. That means you have to align the print heads manually—an unusual step for all but the least-expensive printers today. Manual alignment involves printing an alignment page, picking the best-looking choices for each of several alignment samples, and then entering the settings in the printer driver.
