There is a nut on the top spindle of the agitator. There is a cap on the top of it. Remove the cap and check the nut, it may be loose. IF that is not the issue, the splines on the shaft may be going bad or the transmission is failing,

SOURCE: loud noise while agitating in wash cycle

I have the same problem, loud plastic squeak/grind when agitating only. I'd like to fix it, but have never taken apart a washing machine.

The advice below sounds good but where do you start with "begin dissassembly from the tub down"....etc. Anyone have a good internet resource with images for disassembling this machine?

Thanks.

SOURCE: Clothes mover of whirlpool top-loading washer is loose. Agitates.

You need to replace the agitator dogs inside the clothes mover (agitator). take of the top then the cover, remove th bolt and take the top half off. you should see four "dogs" that need to be replaced.

My GE top loading washer is making a clunking noise during agitation. Everything else okay

The problem may be in your agitator. The spline may be worn out. It is located under the spindle. Are your clothes becoming clean. That noise might be the agitator not fully engaged.

The agitator makes a grinding sound evan when you

this probem is caused by defective bearings, u will need to pull the washer apart and have the bearing checked by a professional for excessive wear, one of them is worn, most likely the agitator shaft bearing. i will advise u that the cost of repair may exceed the cost of a new washer. here is the basic instructions for teardown. go to the link.

Agitator moving just a little.

If it is a Whirlpool or Kenmore make washer you probably stripped the "dog ears" in the agitator. They give you the duel agitation that makes your clothes cycle from top to bottom of the machine. Should only rin you around $8.00 or so. Hope that helps.

if you hold onto the top of the agitator stopping it from turning, and turn the "blades" at the bottom, does it make a ratcheting, clicky sound when you turn them opposite direction from each other
