SOURCE: I have a Kidde model
hi - I think I just fixed the problem for mine. I had the exact same problem. Literally just got back from the store with 2 brand new 9v batteries with an exp. date of 2013 (I made absolute certain they would be years away from expiring). I installed them, and I'll be damned if they didn't start chirping again. As I read the instructions one more time, it occurred to me that it was in hush mode. I pressed the "Push and and Hold To Test" button for about 2 seconds - not long enough to set it off. It hasn't chirped since, and it's been nearly an hour. Try that and see what happens. Good luck!

Most smoke detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-10 years. On the underside of the detectors should be a sticker with installed dated or replace by date. If changing the batteries doesn't stop the chirping it is most like time to replace the detector. If you check the manufacturer website they will give you a life expectancy for your detector.

Hi,
Can you pleas ensure that you have cleaned the unit as well. If it is not broken, that would be the probable cause. You can ask your local fire dept. to assist. They do that for free :-)

Constant problems with these combo detectors. My best suggestion is unplug it from the wall, remove the battery, leave the battery compartment open, then using a can of compressed air that has a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) blow the dust and lint out of the unit. Pay particular attention to the grill vents on the front. When doing all of this, hold the can of compressed air as upright as possible. Replace the battery and plug it back into the wall receptacle.
Hopefully, that will clear up the problem. and accumulation of dust and lint will cause them to false at times.
Pressing and holding the test button for 5 seconds is "supposed" to reset the detector.
