I have a Toshiba 43u6863DB smart Tv which is just over a year old and I am having problems controlling the sound level.

Recently whilst watching the tv and without having touched the remote control, a vertical sound level icon the full screen height appeared on the right hand side of the screen The tv has an optical cable connected for audio output to a home cinema sound system and the tv internal speakers were set to zero volume level.I am unable to delete this icon, I first tried the 'exit' and 'back' buttons and then all the remaining buttons on the remote without success. In addition the sound, now coming from the internal speakers, moves independently between the extreme high and low volume positions, alternately cycling between the highest and lowest levels If I try to change the volume level with the remote the tv automatically resets the level back to the previous highest or lowest level. I have tried to alter the tv system and audio settings using the remote to change the tv menu internal settings but I cannot turn off the internal speakers or set their level back to zero. It almost seems as if a virus has taken over the sound level controls for the internal speakers and is resisting any attempt to reset the internal speakers hack to a zero level but after looking elsewhere on line I have read that it is not possible for a smart tv to be affected by a virus. I would appreciate any suggestions as to possible causes and remedies for the audio problems I am having with the TV.

SOURCE: Sound level unstable

Hi there!
You may have a button stuck either on the remote or on the TV itself. If this does not solve the problem, you may have to refer to a service technician. The IF Amp or the sound stage may be at fault. Good Luck, Regards, JUS004

I had this same issue, and solved it by putting the TV in "Theater Mode', which can be acheived by hitting the "Theater" button on the remote.

SOURCE: Complete loss of audio; video

In that case the internal audio amplifier has failed - most likely the power IC has died, it happens. All you need to do is to locate it - follow the speaker wires to the board, next to where they plug in you will find an IC with a radiator = unsolder it from the board then go to a hobby/electronics shot (or search for an replacement online) and get an identical one, solder it back and attach it to the radiator. That is all.

You just come aroung the sound decoder section of your tv. Decoder problems may cause the fult you pointed out. Since all the controls are electronically controlled, and all are through sound decoder, which converts sound to stereo the problem must be there. Since sound comes from two channels are ok, there is no problem around sound output. Check for some soldering loose contact, wire socket loose cotanct also.

SOURCE: I have an LG TV

Hello,
There are two things that I can suggest.
1-Test your optical cables to make sure they a good on a known working source because they are very fragile and break very easily.
2-Try to eliminate the use of optical output from tv to receiver. There may be a problem from the HDMI to optical conversion at the tv. Instead, try running the audio directly from the source to the receiver, and let the tv deal with video input only.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck.

Why doesn't my tv power up?

Sounds like a power supply level problem. If the tv is more than 10 years old the PSU section should be re-capacitored if it has electrolytics.

What do I have to do to repair my Toshiba smart LED TV

Hiu Annick,
The cause of this problem lies in the power supply board of your TV. Most probably the main dc filter capacitor, the thickest one on the whole board, 150mf/450v should be defective. If you open the back cover and check, you may find this capacitor swollen up at the top. Apart from this you may find some other small capacitors also gone bad.
Another thing, please never leave your TV in stand by mode for long hours, specially when you are not home. Any power fluctuation during this period can harm your set.
A word of caution, please be very careful if you want to do it yourself, because your set is a big one and any wrong move can damage the panel.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.

No picture on my Toshiba 42HP66 plasma tv.

I too have this problem with no help from hh Gregg, where I bought the tv, and no help from Toshiba. I resorted to calling the BBB and complaining about the defective workmanship. I took the tv, which is less than 2 years old, apart and found the y-sus board, behind the y-sus board is a foam rubber spacer to seperate the circut board from the backside of the screen. I think this pad is designed to prevent heat buildup in the y-sus board. The pad itself is held on by glue and that glue melted causing the y-sus board to short out. I noticed this after finding a tacky substance behind the board. The heat from the plasma screen melted this and also the pad itself. Toshiba claims no resposibility because the tv was out of warranty. Thanks Toshiba.
