Presumably an induction motor rather than a series wound brush type motor?

A single phase induction motor needs help to get started - without help it will just buzz, though it can be started in either direction by manually giving the shaft a vigorous twist...

The starting help is provided by an extra winding (start winding) that provides a phase shift to give the rotor a "kick" in the right direction and then is taken out of circuit. In the early days this was accomplished manually by a switch but later motors incorporated a centrifugal switch on the rotor shaft usually in series with a capacitor.
Lots of modern motors just have the capacitor in series with the start winding resulting in a lighter, cheaper and more compact unit though the capacitor is more highly stressed and fails much more often.

SOURCE: GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part

Motor turning at very slow speed.

It sounds like the field coil has failed and must be repalced. Those saws have a 1 yr warranty on them, even if its off warranty it is still cheaper to repalce the coil than the saw. Just find a Bosch service center in your area they can help you out.

Electric blade brake sounds like it is seized up. Upon starting table saw (bosch 4000), motor sounds like it is binding. How can I disengage the brake??

There is no electric brake on the Bosch 4100 table saw. If the motor sounds like it is being held back its possible the rear armature bearing has seized or the field coil is faulty. Both these problems cause the motr to not turn at full speed. The motor must be serviced.

My bosch table saw now seems to be barley turning the motor over after electricitions were switching the power on and off on us the other day as we were cutting .. was wondering if there is a reset switch...

Sounds like the electricians did more than turn on and off the power. There may be several causes to this problem.
  1. You may have a centrifugal starting switch that is stuck. this requires you to do a little surgery by removing the end bell of the motor on the side that has this switch and clean it. Once completed, the motor will work fine.
  2. You may have lost your starting winding. Go on ebay and get another motor
  3. Starting capacitor (if one) was damaged. Check all wiring, be careful because this capacitor holds a charge even when disconnected.

Maytag Neptune Dryer Model # MDE3000AYW

Motor malfunctions usually call for service by a professional. There are three main causes of motor failure: lack of lubrication, a defective motor switch, or worn or frozen bearings. A humming sound can be related to a burned-out motor or a defective switch. Check these trouble spots before you call a professional service person or take the motor to a repair shop. Here's how to check a dryer motor:
Step 1: Remove the back access panel. Then reach behind the drum, motor pulley, and idler arm pulley. If these areas are clogged with dirt and lint, undue strain on the motor may be causing the humming noise. Worn or broken belts can also cause a humming noise. Check the belts for wear and damage. If the belts look all right, you may be able to stop the noise by spraying them with fan belt dressing, available at automotive and hardware stores and home centers.
Step 2: Turn the dryer on. The noise you hear may be the whirl of the spinning drum, not the motor. Some noise is normal.
Step 3: Force a little 20-weight nondetergent motor oil (not all-purpose oil) around the ends of the motor shaft. This lubrication may stop the humming noise. If this doesn't solve the problem, remove the motor and take it to a professional service person. The centrifugal switch on the dryer motor may be located on top of the motor. Humming, no motor power, and no heat can be caused by a faulty centrifugal switch. If the switch is externally mounted, check the terminals of the switch to make sure they are tight and not burned. If you spot trouble, remove the switch and take it to a professional service person for testing. A faulty switch will probably have to be replaced. Some centrifugal switches are located inside the motor housing; you won't be able to remove the switch in this case. Remove the entire motor and take it to a professional for repairs.
If the motor hums, but won't run the pulley on the end of the motor shaft, try turning the pulley by hand.Caution: Before turning the pulley, make sure the power to the dryer is turned off.

Bought the display unit and water will not work.

hi there the low humming noise that you are getting sounds like the fill valve, this could be due to you perhaps not turning the water back on after fitting the new dishwasher or the fill hose being kinked when the dishwasher was put back ,hope this is of some help to you.
