SOURCE: Craftsman DGS 6500 garden tractor won't engage

Hi
There is a pin in the back by the hitch - make sure it is pushed in. If it is pushed in then check to see if there are any oil leaks under it.

SOURCE: Craftsman Transmission problem

Some of these tractors have a friction wheel that is driven off of a flat wheel on the bottom of the engine drive shaft. The rubber ring on this friction wheel could be worn out, or it could be out of adjustment.

SOURCE: 2001 sonoma parking brake petal wont lock into place

There's a ratchet in the top of the pedal which holds the pedal down when depressed. This ratchet is worn, broken, loose, or it just needs lubricating. I would first try WD-40 on the top of the pedal where it attaches to the frame/chassis.

SOURCE: Tractor Will Not Move And Dies When Brake Is Released

I would check the wires and clean the connectors and make sure seat switch is working. If that is not working, it's like getting off the seat without holding the brake/clutch pedal down or getting off seat with blades engaged. Both will cause engine to die.

The transmission belt is probably loose or the clutch is faulty.

This is a micro switch issue, more than likly the switch under the seat or the connection block onto the switch is not fully pushed on.

it sounds like a major engine problem either it dropped a valve or broke a connecting rod out a small long screw driver down the spark plug hole and turn it by hand with the screw driver down the hole and feel if the connecting rod is moving

My craftsman tractor wont pull itself up a hill. Runs fine but just comes to a stop when trying to go up a hill. Maby the ground drive belt is slipping????

Sounds like your drive belt is slipping alright. Need to tighten your clutch rod. One end of rod adjust. Have someone help you, move the clutch petal and your helper watch and see rod moves.

Craftsman yard tractor runs but take foot off brake it dies.....

Check the under seat switch. The switch sometimes fails and this cuts the ignition except when the foot brake is down. You can use jumpers across the switch wires to test it.
