I have Whirlpool Duet dryer, model GEW9200LQ0. At first, it would stop drying when I set it on a particular drying mode (permanent press, delicate, etc.)but it would stop before the clothes were dry. Then, I set the dryer on Manual mode, but when I start the dryer, it stops after maybe 5-10 minutes. I looked at the tech sheet for the dryer, and error code E3 that is showing up on my dryer looks to be something I don't have the time/expertise to do. The tech sheet says : "If the E3 error code is displayed, there is a user interface or software mismatch. It is also possible that a component on the console electronics or the machine control electronics has failed" What kind of repair costs am I looking at? Am I likely to have a huge repair cost b/c of some expensive electronic part?

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

I want to know how hot my dryer gets. I do not have temp. controls on my model

Good Morning Tabitha,

I see that you are looking to see how hot your Frigidaire dryer, model# FER311FS, actually gets, due to you not having temperature controls on your particular model. Being that you have just the timed dry cycle, it provides up to 100 minutes of drying time at high heat for regular and permanent press items. When drying permanent press items, turn the cycle selector to 40-50 minutes. This is the average time needed to dry most loads of permanent press items. The load tumbles without heat during the last 10 minutes of the Timed Dry cycle. Use this setting to refresh clothing, pillows or blankets or to dust draperies. Heat-sensitive items such as plastics, foam rubber or similarly textured rubber-like materials or items containing feathers or down should be dried only with this setting. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

The beep that signals load is done sounds prematurely for about a minute ,the dryer continues until load is dry then shuts off

On this dryer each of the seven automatic cycles listed on your machine perform different functions based on fabrics, load size or variables. In essence the first four settings (Heavy Duty to Delicate) relate to your desired drying temperatures of high, medium, low or extra-low respectively. The moisture level of the load is determined by the dryer's sensor system and the machine will set the drying time to an optimal level.

Whirlpool added a WRINKLE FREE feature or what one might describe as an extended intermittent tumbling time. This added cycle helps reduce wrinkling when you may not be able to unload the dryer immediately after the end of the cycle when the buzzer goes off. Starting this setting is a simple one button operation at the control panel. TheWrinkle Shield™ Plus Feature is preset to on during the permanent press cycle.

Whirlpool duet dryer stuck on control lock mode

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Explanation of Wash Cycles

Sorry but you only have the one speed on this particular brand. Perm and short are just less time. The best thing to do is always use large water setting and less delicates in the load on a short cycle to compensate for the speed and protect your delicate fabrics.

DUET Dryer M# GEW9200LQ0 - Not cuttinh on

coasty...I'm a believer in starting small and going bigger. First, turn off power at the breakers and then back on. You must do this on both sides of the line. If this resets everything, you're good. If not, check the rest of the wiring. Still no, then you're going to need that circuit board.
