Question about Welding Tools

We just experienced a flood.The high water mark on my welder was knee high. I cleaned the welder after the flood, as best I could. There's a 'humming' that's coming from the link, jumper,contactor.

The above reply is very good. If the contactor is buzzing, it will need to be blown out with high pressure air. When I was a welding repair shop manager, we washed every machine out with a pressure washer and then we blew the machine out with high pressure air. When dealing with high electronic machine, you have to avoid getting the electronics wet and high pressure air can damage circuits and wiring. Contractors are easily taken apart and cleaned. WARNING: Any work done on the inside of the machine should only be done with the machine unplugged or locked out. Good luck.

    What I did to clean the machine involved using a siphon gun and compressor, first with a distilled water and detergent solution. Next, I thoroughly rinsed all of it with distilled water. Next, I rinsed thoroughly again with denatured alcohol to displace the water. I then used compressed air to blow the moisture away. I then waited two days before I tried it, possibly not long enough. But it sounds like I can take the contactor apart and clean it, hope so. Thanks for the help.

    It sounds like you did a very good job. Yes the contractor can be taken apart. Be careful, make sure you either mark all the wires or separate them so you know where they go. Also there will be springs inside the contractor. Take your time.

If water gets into electrical equipment the big danger comes from current flowing through the water / moisture where it shouldn't and damaging something.
The equipment needs to be dismantled and completely cleaned and then dried before applying power to it. This usually involves leaving it in a warm dry atmosphere for days, best with a dehumidifier and/or fan going.
Once current has done damage it usually means components need to be repaired or replaced, so be patient and wait until all moisture has been totally removed before applying power.
It may be possible to recover the welder even after it has been powered up by dismantling and thoroughly cleaning and drying if no permanent damage was done. All traces of silt and moisture must be removed from every electrical part before voltage is applied.
Good luck.

SOURCE: blower won't come on, contactor won't close

Check capacitor. Common problem. Replace if you need to. It will be swollen or oily if bad. Russ

Symptom indicates fuel starvation but it is best to use something to verify the spark keeps sparking as it dies. If the spark is ok and the spark plug colour is fairly normal and not black and wet, indicating flooding or excess oil, it would be wise to assume fuel starvation and clean out the system thoroughly.

Won't spin out water

Good Morning Bernice, thank you for your post!

Often when your washer does not spin, it is because your appliance cannot properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. Does your washer make a humming noise? If so, the drainage hose/pump may be clogged and needs to be cleaned. If not, your washer may possibly be experiencing an issue with the door lock assembly, faulty pump, timer or control board not communicating correctly. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair your appliance.

Best regards!

GLTF2940ES will not spin. It enters the spin cycle, will spin lazily left to right, right to left, trying to balance the clothes, and then when it hits the 6minute mark it cuts to off.

Starts to call for water then stops, and I can hear a light hum.

Good Afternoon Nora, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

Often when a washer hums, it is because the drainage hose/pump of your appliance may be clogged due to not being able to properly drain and dispose of the water and detergent solution. Therefore the hose/pump needs to be cleaned. If not, the washer may possibly be experiencing an issue with the door lock assembly, faulty pump, timer or control board not communicating correctly. Because it could be a number of any one of several underlying causes, I would recommend contacting a professional to properly diagnose and repair the unit.

Best of luck!

My 211 Millermatic welder is experiencing burnback no matter how low I set the power. Why is it and what can I do to stop it?

Your problem rely on the initial settings, your voltage is too high or your wire feed speed it's too slow. Compensate both, or just decrease you voltage.

GWL11 fails to drain

I had the same problem. After bailing out the water, I tipped the machine and saw a knee high panty hose caught up in the fan on the bottom. I removed that, checked to make sure the fan could spin freely, and viola! problem solved!

Where is the location of the main computer for the 2008 4 runner

Hello;
Are you saying the car was in a flood or immersed in salt water? If it was how high did the water get? First pull the spark plugs and drain the oils out. Vacuum out the car, put Drizaires in the interior. Do not try to start it. If you do you will short out the computers. All electrical needs to be cleaned and dried. Flood vehicles are a pain but can be fixed. Lots of work, though.
I have dealt with flood vehicles quite a bit and the best surviours are the older non computerized ones. I have limited sucess with the computered ones.
Hope this helps;
