That radio is past the end of life support and parts cannot be gotten. The older units had issues with chips in them that control the tuner and generate signals, the chips are custom made for Kenwood. You may be able to sell it on EBAY for parts.

Kenwood TS-690S will not power on

If your Kenwood TS-690S is not powering on, here are some things you can check:
  1. Power source: Make sure the power source is working properly. Check the power outlet, power cord, and any fuses or breakers that might be involved.
  2. Power switch: Check the power switch on the back of the unit. Make sure it is in the "on" position.
  3. Battery: If your unit has an internal battery, check to make sure it is charged and working properly.
  4. Connections: Check all the connections between the radio and any other devices it is connected to. Make sure they are securely connected and that there is no corrosion or damage.
  5. Internal components: If none of the above solutions work, there may be an issue with the internal components of the radio. In this case, it is best to take it to a professional for repair or contact Kenwood customer service for further assistance.

I recently had a Kenwood Stereo system passed down to me, it includes a Kenwood GE-850 Graphic Equalizer, when the EQ is turned on it works completely fine. Accept the display on the front does not light...

This site says it has the Owners Manual which would include wiring info, and also the Service Manual, but you have to register.

https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/kenwood/ge-850.shtml

This site has the service manual for £5.00 UKP

Here is the Service Manual for free!

In my experience, the back light on the display should be on all the time.

My kenwood ts 700sp display stopped working. It don't change when I rotate the dial. Was working fine now it just stays on 144.000 Where should I look?

I had this happen on a Kenwood and this may be what has happened to you. Take your top and bottom covers off and then you will need to undo the front panel from the chassis so you can tilt it to be able to get to the main dial VFO encoder. You will need to remove the main tuning knob and then remove the encoder and take it apart. What happened in mine was the main encoding wheel which is a very thin round wheel with tons of small slots that break a light beam causing the frequency to change. My encoding wheel glue let the disk come off. The shaft turned but not the encoding wheel itself. Check this first. If you have a scope you could check to output pulse train of the encoder before taking it apart. No pulse train from the encoder could mean the disk encoder wheel is not moving. Good luck. Dennis

How hard is it to replace the finals in a kenwood ts-2000

Hi Damon,

It's Bloomin' hard, and it's tricky if you have little technical knowledge.

Yes Kenwood is a darn good brand, so to keep your Kenwood darn good, pay for the repairs, it's darn worth it.

Cheers,
Peter
