Noise on fill or when cycle is ongoing before wash cycle/modeas far as i can tell. Its a Bosch SMS50T02GB/40. I have already removed and checked the drain impeller pump and made sure no obstructions in the main body of the unit. During the rest of the cycle it is silent running - is there a solenoid or valve that changes direction or something that could be making the noise as it reverses flow or something like that? UPDATE: I found a related post on here that pointed me in the direction of the spray arms. I removed the upper spray arm - noise goes away. Put it in again - noise comes back. My only question is this: by removing the spray arm, i reduce the incoming pressure...the noise is loud enough to be more than plastic and there are no moving parts other than the spinning arm. Could the noise be related to a pump that is straining to get the water up to pressure when the upper arm is in place? If so - which pump would this be please? Thanks for your views
SOURCE: Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle
It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

Try looking for slithers of glass etc under the impeller. Remove the sump covers (filters) and look into the bottom. There will probably be a small cover held down by a screw. Under this is the impeller. Roll up a hand towel into a cigarette shape and slide this under the impeller - that should clear anything out.

I have been told to replace the timer which I am looking to do the same to my machine!
SOURCE: Squealing noise
had same squealing problem.... had machine checked over. NOTHING WRONG.
Repair people ran it a few times with just water and no squealing at all. they also ran it with detergent capsule [Fairy] No squealing. Have got it back to monitor it. Used Fairy capsules for a few washes and no problems. As soon as I used the Waitrose Essential concentrated dishwasher liquid, the squeak was back with a vengeance.
The moral of my story is TRY NOT USING LIQUID DISHWASHER DETERGENT
