Ok Tom not everything is a crime wave or worst case scenario. The way I read it he stating it's happening more than once. Your door adjustment could be off causing wind or air pressure to be just enough to cause it to open. The frequency of the signal is irrelevant without the same individual code you have programed. It is just sent at that frequency as most, they need the code specific to your opener, the 315mhz band is a common one, but without your specific code it would not open. The people who drive around use multiple openers with common codes hoping to get lucky. They don't keep doing it and come back later a bunch of times

SOURCE: Sears Craftsman 1/2Hp Garage Door Opener - Opens on its own

There are three causes for this problem:
1. a remote is sticking or is getting bumped (if the vacation lock is on and it still has phantom operation remotes are not the issue).
2. the logic board could be going bad (if you have the 315Mhz you have a newer operator so this is probably not your issue)
3. the wires to the wall button have a short. Try disconnecting the wall button wires from the operator. If this stopps the phantom operaton you might solve your issue by running new wires to your wall button.

SOURCE: jag xj6 1996 97 programming the garage door openers

1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.) 2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your visor), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)
property_damage_symbol_sm.gif Note: Some garage door openers may require you to replace step 3 with the “cycling” procedure noted in the “View Canadian Instructions” section.
4. Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light.

  • If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released.
  • If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device. A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps.
5. At the garage door opener receiver (motorhead unit) in the garage, locate the “learn” or “smart” button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit). If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener’s manual or contact us. 6. Press and release the “learn” or “smart” button (the name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer). NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step. 7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process.

SOURCE: Garage door opener transmitter/receiver compatibility

Press and hold the homelink button and wait till the red light flashes slowly, but don't release it. Now hold a working remote 3 inches away, press the remote button and hold it.When the red Homelink buttom fllashes quickly, release both buttons. Now go to the opener and push the learn button. Now go back to your car and press and hold the Homelink button. You will see the lights on your opener flash. Now your Homelink button should operate your garage door.

SOURCE: Chamberlain garage door opener unit-is it compatible with craftsman keypad?

Hello,Linda well this is your lucky day ,I have installed garage door openers for sears for 10 years and i can tell you that craftsman, chamberlain ,and liftmaster are all the same machine and manufactured under the liftmaster name , if you buy it from home depot it will be a chamberlain ,if you buy it at sears ,it will be a craftsman, and if you go to commercial building supplier it will be a liftmaster! now getting that out of the way even though they are all compatible ,there is one thing that stands in their way and that,s time ,For example if your chamberlain machine is 5 years old and you went to sears last week ,the chances of the frequency being the same are not good , most likely you have the wireless keypad , one way to test the sears keypad against the chamberlain machine is to locate the smart button on your machine ,this button allows for programming of remotes and keypads , to test and see exactly what im talking about take your remote and locate the smart button ,if you have three buttons on the remote press one of the buttons that are not being used on the remote ,above the smart button their will be a blinking light ,if you press your remote button you will notice the light go from a blink to a rapid flash , This is telling you that you are sending a signal for programming to the machine , well the keypad is exactly the same all you have to do is push the enter button on the keypad and have someone watch for the rapid blinking light ,if they are compatible the light will blink rapidly on the machine so all you have to do now is have someone press the smart button once on the machine your indicator light will now be a solid light you will have approx 60 seconds then to put a 4 digit code in the keypad and then press and hold down the enter button on the keypad , at this point you will notice the lightbulbs on the chamberlain machine to shut off and come back on this is to tell you that the machine accepted the code , after thats been done you can use your keypad , you can also find the owners manual to the chamberlain and follow the same instructions to programming the remote , they are identical in programing , if your keypad is not the same frequency you can also tell by looking at the frequency code on the backside of the keypad and also the chamberlain unit usually where the light bulb is will be its code

You need to do is shade the eyes some how for th door to work. What I did was remove them and put them up by the opener so the sun does not get to them.

It sounds like the sensor on the top section of the door may be mounted upside down. If you can, remount it right side up, and see if that corrects if the problem. If not, contact me directly.

All garage door openers have a quick release. Have you checked to make sure that is locked in place? Most have a cord hangin from it and you pull it which releases it from the chain. Make sure that is engaged and it should work.

Replaced batteries.changed codes verified not in lock position checked wiring-checked breakers -remotes dont work have 2 different units-one commercial all stopped working on same day -need help

I have the Same Problem...
2 similar but independent 315MHz Craftsman door openers stopped receiving any remote signals at the exact same time. One hour they worked , next hour they didn't, no storms in area.

I know remotes are good because they still open our subdivision gate. the Only way to open door is with wall pad. Verified that they are not on vacation lock. 5 different remotes, 2 different keypads all no longer open door.
I tried resetting codes with learn button but they won't take new programming. Also before when an unlearned remote was used in the area, the learn light would at least flicker (as if it was receiveng a code, but rejecting it) It no longer even does that.
i even cycled the circuit breaker and the vacation lock, no help.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
