Make sure the paper is the correct width. Also make sure the paper type is correct (thermal vs bond) and make sure you have the roll sitting in the paper housing the correct way up. Other than that, you may have a faulty printer

Hmm. That is almost NEVER a paper problem, so forget about that.
It is always difficult to diagnose head problems without seeing the machine.
It can be a dirty thermal head, but that's not common unless something has been spilled on it. If you want to try cleaning the head, open the printer, and find the head. It is usually a small aluminium block that clamps against the paper when the printer is closed. it will always sit against the front of the paper. On that block, you will see tiny lines all very close together. They go to a connector at one end, and a thin black line at the top of the head. Wipe this black line firmly with a dry cotton bud.

Here is a picture of a thermal head:

Just above the light brown strip, you can just see the black line. This is what you would rub clean.

Otherwise, make sure the paper is clamping hard against the head while closed. If the clamp is not pressing with the same force at both ends of the head, then you will miss some printing. Try pressing against the back of the paper at the head while it prints, and see if it prints any more than before, then you know if your'e on the right track.

Hope this helps.

Mark.

SOURCE: The paper doesn't advance when I hit the return

Hi!
I'm going out on a limb here.
I assume the carriage returns but the line does not advance. Close?

- There is a setting for the linespacing which is either 0 (zero), or 1, or 1 1/2 or 2
Likely, this has been inadvertently moved.

- Also, there is a way of disengaging the linespace mechanism to allow typing to be made on unevenly space forms. This might have been moved.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Royal alpha 710ml, printer prints solid black bars on half the reciept

Very common when the printer fails. Probably needs a new printer unit.

The printing on the register tape is too light to read.

There are two common reasons:
Firstly, the paper may be faulty. The cheaper the paper, the worse the reproduction. I see this all the time. The paper should feel reasonably thick and have a very shiny surface on one side (the print side). Secondly, the thermal head may be failing in the printer. The heads in the small cheap registers wear out quicker than the high end registers.

Cash register PE ondisplay and nothing will work

It means printer error. Usually after a paper jam. Clear any paper out and try turning off and on at the wall. ***************************************************************************** *****************************************************************************
