If it works leave it alone. current is a function of voltage and resistance
The igniter current I in amps (A) is equal to the resistor's voltage V in volts (V) divided by the resistance R in ohms (?):

SOURCE: Whirlpool 465. The top range burners will not

The bake is seperate from the burner ignition system. You may need a new spark module for the top burners. All burners should spark at the same time even if you are only trying to lite one burner.

SOURCE: stove top ignitors do not ignite but oven does.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

Oven slow to heat , oven burner goes on and off a lot, oven igniter glows....broiler works fine

Hello. I need the make/model number to help you accurately. It sounds like the bake ignitor is worn out and not consistently igniting the gas. How old is the unit? If it has more than a few years on it, the ignitor can wear--it might glow, but not enough to ignite gas. Remove the racks.Remove the bottom cover of the oven(usually there are 2 screws, right and left side at the rear, inside the oven. There usually will be a heavy steel flame shield held on by a single nut underneath the cover. Remove this shield. This will expose the ignitor(called a glow bar). One of the classic symptoms of a worn bar is that the center of the glow material will turn bright orange but not the rest of the resistive material. Also, you can test the viability of the bar using a meter. Normal amp draw on either of the 2 wires connected to it should have approximately 4 amps. Use a clamp-on voltage/ohm meter set to amps. Under normal conditions, the electric gas valve senses the current draw and will open, letting in gas to ignite. From activating "bake" to ignition *usually* takes 20 to 30 seconds. If you find yours is worn, HANDLE THE REPLACEMENT GENTLY. Don't knock it, drop it, or touch the resistive material. It is FRAGILE AND BREAKS EASILY(ask me how I know this!)The mount screws(usually 2) can become seized due to heat. Take your time removing them. Another symptom of a worn ignitor can be the "WHOOF" sound of too much gas building up in the oven prior to ignition. I've seen oven doors knocked open by too much gas saturation suddenly igniting from a slow glow bar. I hope I helped you!

Hello,

The problem with your oven not igniting is that the BAKE ignitor is weak and drawing the required amprage (3.3-3.6) to allow the gas valve to open. I know to the layman it does not seem that the ignitor could be the problem since it comes on, but as appliance technician with 30 years experience i am 100% confident that the problem is indeed the ignitor being weak, since it does come on that eliminates all others possibilities because if any other part were defective the ignitor would not even come on
The part number for the ignitor is 786324 it can be purchased online by simply googling the part number then click the shopping tab on the google search

Oven takes too long to heat up sometimes wont even go to the temperature ignitor is working well can see the glow magic chef model 3488vvv serial 13368882kz

Hello there:
Hi,

When you turn the oven on, open the oven door and look down at the bottom and see if its glowing red, it should glow red for about 45-60 seconds then you should hear the gas ignite. If the gas doesn't ignite, then your igniter glow bar is bad.

Here's the oven glow bar igniter for your model:

Ignitor lights up bright, but no ignition,no flame and I don't hear the gas turn on like I normally do. Top burners work fine.

Hello, welcome to fixya ! Based on your description I suspect you have a faulty bake ignitor. This may surprise you, or it may not. I think at first it surprises people when the hot surface ignitor glows but the oven won't lite. Since the ignitor "glows" one figures it would appear to be working, that would be wrong. These ignitor's serve 2 functions, 1) need to maintain a set value to open/activate the gas valve, typically around 3.5amps... & 2) ignite the fuel once said gas valve is open. A poor/faulty ignitor may glow & and even ignite the burner intermittently for moments at a time ( thus giving off some heat but never the set amount or not lite at all ) but yet not reach the needed value to open the gas valve/safety valve consistently nor adequately, hence the need to replace the ignitor. Try this and I'm certain you'll be up & running and as they say " cookin' with gas" ! I'd suggest you should refer to your specific model when ordering the part locally or on-line. The most common hot surface ignitor part is #12400035 and it will work in your Whirlpool too. Try places like repairclinic.com, searspartsdirect.com, APwagner.com etc. Thank's for visiting "fixya" for your stove inquiries.
