I follow the cheats I've found i.e. press menu button, enter region code (76884) then I press 9 which appears on screen and then turn the machine off. But when I turn it back on the change hasn't stuck or been accepted and it has remained on region 4. thanks sooooo much!

For codefree/multi-region press 9
Press Open DVD door button
Power OFF and power ON
You could also try this!
Turn player on without disc inside
Press MENU button
Enter your region code (See list below)
Highlighted 'region area number' will appear in the upper-left corner (on some players)
Press 9 to multi-region the machine
Turn machine off
Region 1 - 29334
Region 2 - 38767 (or 5 7 5 3 8)
Region 3 - 56732
Region 4 - 76884
Region 5 - 53814
Region 6 - 24462

Step 1: Power your DVD player with no disc.
Step 2: Wait for the "No Disc" error showing on the machine.
Step 3: Press PAUSE on the remote control
Step 4: Enter 3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9 on the remote control. And CODE or FF will appear on the TV.
Step 5: Enter 0 on the Remote. By the way 0 means all regions.
Step 6: Press PAUSE on the remote control
Step 7: Power the DVD player OFF (wait 30 seconds), then power DVD player back on. Your DVD player region will be changed to region-free.
If it still can't work, you can try to download a region free DVD player software and play the region-locked DVD disc on your PC.

I tried both suggestions and neither one worked. I can get the "9" to appear in the top right hand corner but then it disappears and no matter what I do, turn the machine off, open DVD door button etc when I then go and put in a different region DVD, it still does not play. thanks
