Turn off (unplug if necessary) your modem, router, and PC. Then power on the modem, wait a minute and then power on the router, then power on your PC, this should solve your issue if you have service.

Loose connection

Which Operating System? How are you connecting with a wire (ethernet cable that runs from the router/modem) to the back of the computer or wireless?

How long does it stay connected? Are you able to get on the internet and do anything when it connects?

Im trying to establish an internet connection (not wireless)

You will need to open control panel and go to device manager. There look for network controller and see if there is an Ethernet controller listed. If you don't have one listed you will have to install one or the driver for it if the Ethernet is on the motherboard. If you do have one, then right click on it and check properties to see if it reports that it's installed and working properly. If it is then you may have a bad connecting in the cable and not a problem with the computer. You should be using a BLUE Ethernet cable from your router or modem to get on the Internet.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Belkin Wireless G Router causes loss of internet connection

Does your router have one LED lamp for each "wired" port?
If so, does unplugging the Ethernet-cable (the one that connects to your desktop PC) cause the lamp to go off?
Does reconnecting that cable cause the lamp to go on?

Also, on your desktop computer, there could be a lamp right beside where the Ethernet-cable connects into your computer.
Again, disconnect the cable, and reconnect the cable, to see if that lamp goes off/on.

Have you tried a different cable?

Do *NOT* connect your desktop computer to the 'WAN' port on the router -- connect it to any of the "LAN" ports.

Belkin N Modem Router If main PC which is ethernet wired to the modem router is swtiched off, laptops cannot access the internet. Does this mean that the PC to which the modem router is connected has to...

it will as long as the modem/router is connected to a phone line, instead of the pc, the only cable connected to the pc should be a ethernet cable; or you have the pc networking set that it connects via another pc instead of through a gateway, re run the wireless network wizard.

HELP PLEASE ASAP

OK well I think it is better to set it up like this... Connect the Modem to the Phone Line, Connect the Modem to the Router with an Ethernet Cable, Use a CABLE connection from the Main PC to the Router. (Ya gonna ditch the USB WiFi) Set that Main PC connection up to connect to the internet from the Main PC, thru Router thru Modem.... Then from Slave, install the USB adapter in this PC, and use this to connect DIRECTLY to the WiFi Router... and thus to the internet. This way will give the best transfer rates, and reliability
