Recently whenever the motor starts (several times per hour) the fridge starts to make a very loud buzzing sound like an oven timer and some knocking noises when it shuts off. No other problems however, as posted by someone else, there is sometimes a gurgling sound like water is leaking out but no water is evident...it is a large capacity Whirlpool upright electronic frost free. We have recently changed the kitchen layout and fridge position and the back was on a lower level than the front (bad tiling job!). We have re-levelled (raised back level) but noise still evident. Help please. Fridge is 5 years old and was a factory replacement for a previous lower capacity whirlpool which was a dud! Company was NOT helpful.
The knocking noise when cuts off , is a compressor internal motor support spring , broken . This does not mean the compressor is bad , only noisy for the rest of the compressor life , but should be covered under the 5 yr warranty . The gurgling sound is the refrigerant being pumped thru the system . The buzzing could be from the compressor also . My suggestion , would be to call a factory warranty company , to see if they can replace the compressor under warranty .
