Ice maker quit working

If equipped with Ice Maker and water dispenser we can assume that the water feed has developed a leak. To confirm protect the floor in-front of the machine pull the machine out from the wall and reach around behind and turn off the water feed. CAUTION the wheels from a full machine will scar the kitchen flooring. Mop up the water and dry out the floor.

If the water no longer returns than you can assume that the source of the water is with the ice maker or water dispenser.

If the water continues and the machine operates normally (freezer below 10 F and refrigerator < 40 F) then it is the defrost cycle. The good news the ice maker might be alright. The defrost cycle has a drain tube. About twice a day or less often the machine has an automated defrost that allows for the ice build up on the evaporator coils to melt and run through a tube to a tray under the machine. the water in the tray evaporates between cycles.

First check if there is any water collecting at the bottom inside the refrigerator portion of the machine. If so with the water turned off you can be certain that the defrost cycle water is not being contained with in the drain tube. It is common that the drain tube can either plug from lint etc or ice over, Included i will link a few videos describing the situation and depending on your model a course of action.

One of 2 things happened. Either the ice maker hung up or the water valve stuck open I would guess the water valve.

first replace the water valve

your refrig. goes through a periodic defrost cycle whereby this water is produced. It is supposed to travel down to the evaporation pan near the floor of the frig. Your evaportation pan may be clogged, remove the front lower panel and get a flashlight and examine it., or the tube leading from the freezer floor may be clogged or have ice it it. Check that out and if the opening of the tube has ice in it, melt it with a hair blow dryer

Your problem is possibly one of two things. The ice maker is leaking or the defrost tray behind the rear panel inside freezer back wall is clogged with ice or something else. If you know its not the ice maker unplug the refrigerator and remove the back panel to see if the drain is blocked there, Let me know, Sea Breeze

theharrisont,  You state that...." ice maker stopped working after it flooded our kitchen floor."  The water works because the water fountain dispenser uses a separate part of the Water Valve. The ice maker portion of the water valve is defected and the entire Water Valve Assembly will have to be replaced.  Your problem is the dual Water Valve Assembly which is located on the rear bottom area of the refrigerator (follow the water inlet line from the wall to the refrigerator...the water inlet line connects to the Water Valve Assembly).  The significant info which you provided was that the ice maker flooded the kitchen which indicates the Water Valve Assembly is defected. Failure to replace the Water Valve Assembly will result in the same problem of flooding at some later date.  Replacing the dual Water Valve Assembly is just one step of several steps necessary to correct the problem.  You will also have to temporarily remove the ice maker from the freezer (usually a couple of screws hold it to the wall and a quick disconnect electrical plug) and put it in the sink and run warm water over to remove any ice.  Before you reinstall the ice maker you must check the Water Fill Tube that dumps the water into the ice maker.  Because you said that the ice maker flooded the kitchen, then the Water Fill Tube is probably filled solid with ice which must be removed.  A hair dryer is a quick way to achieve this.  Blow hot air directly into the end of the Water Fill Tube which dumps the water into the ice maker.  Note:  Use a long screw driver to insert into the Water Fill Tube to break loose any ice and continue to use the hair dryer to help to remove any ice. This should correct your problem

no its not blown up low water pressure will cause also sticking water valves if it has worked properly for a while then change the water valves

check to see if the defrost drain is not frozrn over or stopped up
this is the only way that water can get into the freezer
frost could and melt but dont think that i would check the drain at the bottom of the rear freezer panel if you see ice it is stopped up for sure
if all is clear there go to the ice maker, have had some that are overfilling and runnig over the ice maker into the bottom of the freezer
