I recently moved from USA to India and brought my Maytag refrigerator MZD2766GES with me. Its not going into deforst cycle and stops cooling every 3-4 days. India has frequent power outages everyday. Although I have my own power generation in case of a power outage, it takes 15 to 30 seconds to switch to generated power. Do you think this resets the adaptive defrost cycle and that's why its not going into defrost as temporary power outage happens every 3-4 hours.
If that's the case:
- Is it safe to turn off the refrigerator once a day for 2-3 hours to stop the frosting?
- I might consider using a UPS to cover the 30 seconds it takes to switch to generated power. What wattage do I need for the UPS?
- What if I install a switch from L1 and Test of the adaptive control and press it for 3-4 seconds once every day?
- Any other suggestion?
Thanks for your help.
SOURCE: RESET DEFROST TIME
please check you model. if it is a new model. most likely it is now using the adaptive defrost which is controlled by the pcb. no more mechanical timer.
if you will find the diagram and it would say you have a timer. you can look at the front, if you take the front grill off. sometimes they are located at the center wall between the drain pan and the condenser.
tnx 4 using fixya,

It should be located in the top of the refrigerator section in the housing where the temperature control it.
