Problem with Adaptive Defrost in Maytag refrigerator

I recently moved from USA to India and brought my Maytag refrigerator MZD2766GES with me. Its not going into deforst cycle and stops cooling every 3-4 days. India has frequent power outages everyday. Although I have my own power generation in case of a power outage, it takes 15 to 30 seconds to switch to generated power. Do you think this resets the adaptive defrost cycle and that's why its not going into defrost as temporary power outage happens every 3-4 hours.
If that's the case:
- Is it safe to turn off the refrigerator once a day for 2-3 hours to stop the frosting?
- I might consider using a UPS to cover the 30 seconds it takes to switch to generated power. What wattage do I need for the UPS?
- What if I install a switch from L1 and Test of the adaptive control and press it for 3-4 seconds once every day?
- Any other suggestion?

Thanks for your help.

SOURCE: RESET DEFROST TIME

please check you model. if it is a new model. most likely it is now using the adaptive defrost which is controlled by the pcb. no more mechanical timer.

if you will find the diagram and it would say you have a timer. you can look at the front, if you take the front grill off. sometimes they are located at the center wall between the drain pan and the condenser.

tnx 4 using fixya,

MZD2766GES No cooling.Stat(slide) set to call.120v to unit.Lights on.No compressor operations.Manually defrost last few months.

Lets check start relay, run capacitor and thermostat. Also need you to pull away from the wall and unplug, remove cover over compressor and then feel the top of the compressor to see if warm or too hot to keep hand there. Should you need a start relay you will need=> 12002784 Relay and Overload Kit

Temp is going up in both the fridge and the freezer droor

First place to look is the freezer and see if frost is building up on rear wall. If yes unplug and begin manual defrost. I am almost sure your has a Adaptive Defrost Control on the inside control panel where you set temperatures and if bad will set this problem into causing no defrost and having ice blocking air flow. I need to give many reasons for you to look for but it is what I do on service calls. Because your model has Adaptive Defrost Assembly Click Here=> 61005988 there is a higher possibility that it is defective and not allowing defrost. On link below it is photo #13 on that page. You will need to enter the control panel through the fresh food section above the top shelf. Please let me know what you find so we may move checking for something different like fans, start relay or run capacitor. Have a Maytag MZD2766GES Side by Side Refrigerator, somehow it just stopped working. The freezer part is just a little cold but the other side is not cool at all. What can it be?

check the freezer compartment, remove the shelves remove the cover in the back if the condensing coil is frozen solid your adaptive defrost board or defrost coil is bad. a temporary fix is turn off refrigerator, defrost coil ( I used a space heater). turn refrigerator off . you will need to do this every third day until adaptive defrost board is replaced. to check defrost coil check with ohm meter It should have resistance. this website should give you the gory details http://www.appliance411.com/faq/howdefrostworks.shtml

Not cold

Inside the fresh food compartment there is an adaptive defrost control. If it is bad it will cause the evaporator coils to freeze and reduce cold air circulation throughout your refrigerator. You can unplug your refrigerator and remove the control panel as to view the board. Sometimes you will see burn marks but not always. You also can while unplugged remove the back panel in the freezer compartment to see if ice is present and if so you can defrost the ice and examine the defrost heater to make sure that it is ok. The part number for your adaptive defrost assembly is 61005988
I am using the model number above your post so please correct me if wrong. Model number MZD2766GES
