I have a Kohler Command 13 engine in a John Deere riding mower. It will start, but will run wide open. It will not throttle down at all, but will run roughly choked. What is the issue here?

if that is the Kohler 14 hp motor it may have the spark control untit on the motor cover. I recently ran into one like that and switched the coil out from a blown 20 hp kohler engine. I just taped up the excess wires and made sure they were not near any moving parts. The mower ran fine after that. Kohler wants about $160.00 for a spark control unit. There have been no repercussions since making the switch.
Check ingition switch, check battery voltage 12-12 1/2 volts, check in run position same voltage, check in start position same voltage We've check switch first. If not problem we've check the points for proper voltage and opening and closing.
If there is no #'s you can call John Deere or go on there web site and should find some info.If you have the model of the tractor john deere can tell you what engine you have. If you have an engine # they can also help you.Good luck. donnyb60.
