could you use laymen terms, I am not familiar with solenoid, ferrell. there is already a water line created, but it has something on the end of it. What do I need to do to connect that water line to the back of my refrigerator? Do I need any glue or some kind of sealant? Does this process call for a certain tool?

This is my first installation and I got the hose hooked up and turned the water on, but no water came out of the door. I can hear the motor roaring away and am afraid to leave it on too long. How long should I hold it down for the water to work its way through all the coils to get to the door?

At the back bottom of the fridge there will be a coil solenoid. If your appliance is ice make ready this will be there, these coils have a bracket that has fitting for a water connection. Get a 1/4 tube with a ferrell and nut. slide them on the tube and connect to the fitting.

Sorry for the terminology. In the back of the fridge, if it has an ice maker kit already installed, there should be a bracket with a plastic thing with a round cylinder that has a couple of wires connected to it. This bracket has a small fitting that is threaded. The wall behind your fridge should have a water valve. You need to connect a pipe or tube from the valve in the wall to the bracket fitting on your fridge. There should be no special things needed except for a wrench to tighten the nuts on the tube. I don't know what kind of thing you have attached to the end of your water line, but if its suspect, remove it, if you can, and take it to Home Depot, Ace or wherever, and ask then to give you a flexible line with the right size fittings on each end. Most of them carry these hoses for ice maker kits. Some teflon tape on the threads cant hurt, but most times are not necessary. connect the water line to both the wall and fridge, tighten with wrench.I hope this helps.

SOURCE: ice maker not getting water in the line

The only other component stopping the valve from putting water into your icemaker is the icemaker itself. Replace your icemaker and you should solve your problem.

Water does not flow

first you should take the water feed off, clear all water out of tube going to ice maker.remoe ice maker and check the wiring and all looks good.hook water up,turn water on just enough to see you have waterflow yo ice maker.might need a towel or two in the freezer.replace icemaker, make sure bar on ice maker is down, turn water on full, give it 12hrs to make ice. good water flow-no ice--replace ice maker.

I just bought a used kenmore elite side by side refrigerator and hooked up the water line to the back of the fridge. My question is where does the long water line the goes to the fridge and comes back...

Where you hook the house water line is to the water inlet valve which is a one in two out solonoid controlled valve. One side goes to the water dispenser in the door and the other hooks to the ice maker connection.

So I suspect the long water line you are talking about has had the lines switched at the valve and needs reversed. The long line probably goes up the back of the unit and connects to the ice maker. The one for the water dispenser should hook to the water chiller resevoir and then to the water dispenser.

I have a water line thats cut off and dont know where its supposed to hook up to

If you are referring to the ice maker water supply it usually connects to the hot water line of the kitchen sink by using a saddle valve like the ones that come in an "ice maker connection kit"

Need info on how to hook up ice maker lines

OK the ice maker is the boss. It calls for water. Nothing else in the ice box controls the ice maker water but the ice maker itself. How? Fancier models use capacitance of ice mold to correctly fill the ice mold. On board intel monitors the temp of the ice mold by sending power through it and checking for differences in capacitance in the mold. When it hits the sweet spot it monitors the temp till it temps inside the mold determine ice is there and kicks in the harvest cycle. Older styles simply put a measured amount of water into the ice mold at the end of each harvest cycle. You gotta first run a water line to the water valve and then run a line from the water valve up to the Ice Maker fill spout behind the ice box. Nothing to it.

HOOK UP OF ICE MAKER TO THE WATER LINE

What you have in the back is a 1/4 tube which will feed cold water to the icemaker.

go to any hardware store and ask for an icemaker supply line kit. It will consist of a tapping valve, about ten feet of 1/4 inch tubing and a straight connector.

it will also contain step by step instructions.

You will have to determine what cold water line to tap into that is accessable. Perhaps the kitchen sink cold water supply if it is on the same wall as the refrigerator. Many times the line is run up from the basement.

enjoy your new icemaker.

Ice maker not making ice after replacing water line.

Ice makers are a common problem. On many brands there is a reset button behind the plastic cover. However if you physically see Ice clogging your water inlet to the ice maker, this will without a doubt prevent the ice maker from making ice. Use hot water or a steamer to unclog the ice or you can leave the unit unplugged for a few hours to defrost the freezer. You should be able to hear when the ice maker cycles and lets in water. Note: if you're getting plenty of water out of your in door water dispenser, then it's NOT a water supply problem. You may need to check the solenoid that controls water entering the ice maker.

How to hook up Ice & Water dispenser on freezer door

The water valve is on the back of the refrigerator. The water line connects directly to that valve. If there is no line available then you will need to run one from a cold water line in the plumbing using a drill type (1/4") saddle valve on that pipe. Hope this helps.
