No, you don't have to remove the spark plugs. That will allow it to turn easier because it cant compress in the cylinder, but not a must. As far as the rest of the removal, yes that's how it needs to be done. If you don't want to do all that work, you can ad SeaFoam. It does have good reviews, but its not the proper way to fix. Whenever you add any kind of additive, you risk causing more damage. Save yourself the future head ache and replace the head gasket. If you are confident you can just remove what you see needs to be removed, go with it. All instructions are base on a mechanics standpoint, and lets face it the more work performed the higher the payout. Just use your eyes and good judgment, You will see exactly what needs to be removed..... Good luck.
within the bump head (once opened) you will see add arrows, this indicates which direction you add the line, usually opposite to each other, you will have line hold points (4) within the cup. once you have fulled the cup head with line (octupus needed), thread each line through feeder holes and push line into housing making sure you pull line out through the feeder at same time as pushing into head. pold the hell out of everthing or it will go haywire. Vrey difficult, but after about 300 tries at it, you will still go to the dealer to do it. If you can make any heads or tales of my solution..good luck but its how you do it. Regards Russ
Oddly enough, the string head appears to be identical to the one for their gas model. Some poor engineering and design here. Before you buy another model, maybe take a trip to Home Depot and in the lawn and garden section you may find several trimmer parts for different models, including a Universal String Head. Try changing out the head as the stock one is a headache for many users.
LINE REPLACEMENT (Fig. 8) (For Reel EasyTM
Head)
Use 2.4mm monofilament string. Use original
manufacturer's replacement string for best performance.
n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
n Cut one piece of string approximately 7.6m in length.
n Rotate knob on string head until line on knob aligns
with arrows on top of string head.
n Insert one end of string into eyelet located on the
side of the string head and push until string comes
out through eyelet on the other side. Continue to
push string through the string head until the middle
section of the string is inside the string head and
string outside the string head is evenly divided on
each side.
n Rotate the knob counterclockwise on the string head
to wind the string. Wind the string until approximately
20cm remains protruding from the string head.
INSTALLING STRING IN PRO CUT II STRING
HEAD
Use monofilament string between 2.4 mm and 2.7 mm
diameter. Use original manufacturer's replacement string
for best performance.
n Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
n Gather two of the pre-cut lengths of trimmer line provided
or cut two pieces of trimmer line, in 28 cm lengths.
n Insert the strings into the slots located on the sides of
the string head. String should be pushed in until
approximately 2 cm protrudes from the holes on the
top of the string head.
n Remove old string by pulling it from the holes located
on the top of the string head.

cut to pieces of string about 8 ft long. run your line through the holes on the side of the head. you will see 2 smaller holes on the inside. put the string in those 2 holes and begin turning your head to install the string.
After you line up the two triangles, push in and lift. Only the top piece will come off, then the spool is inside. I kept trying to lift the whole head and then the top popped off and I realized what I was doing wrong. It is actually quite easy once you figure out the correct way and where to pull.
what model is trimmer? cs30? if you found the line on it clockwise, that's your problem. on the cs30 it rotates counterclockwise if youre looking at the head while trimmer is upside down. the line has to be wound opposite direction or your going to have a MESS of string in the head.
