This problem occurs on a BlackBerry Pearl paired with a Zyxel wifi router. I've successfully connected the phone to many other networks before, and currently have several laptops successfully connected to the router. The router logs show the phone's successful connection and repeated authentications, the phone shows full signal strength yet it just drops the connection and never allows to remain connected. It never acquires an IP address either.
I have removed all existing WiFi profiles in the phone, recreated several times the connection profile, but still, no difference. I'm not running out of options. I've also tried various authentication/security settings on the router but nothing seems to make a difference. (currently using WPA/WPA2 auto and auto channel)
The official error code certainly makes no sense in regard to this issue since the router is just a few feet away, in the same room and signal strength is strong.
Any suggestion to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.
W010 - Wi-Fi Connection Failed
Meaning: The wireless network is no longer in range, or it has a weak signal.
1. The wireless network is not in range or has a weak signal to provide a successful connection.
2. If the attempt to connect is through the Saved Networks list,
the network may not be available or the profile saved has different
security settings than the available wireless network.
3. If the attempt to connect is through the Available Networks list, then the user has probably walked out of the area of coverage of that particular wireless network.

there should'nt be a problem setting WEP security or an other unless there is a firmware problem, as you simply select security, then the method e.g. WEP, select hex, then open system amd type manually your values for a chosen key number from 1 to 4.

Suggest resetting to factory defaults, then see if your can make changes to the authentication's. If not go the website of device and access help and support. BPCS

Please follow the steps on a computer connected to the router so as to check the network key:
1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router usually http://192.168.0.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
3. Login to the router with the Username as admin and password as password (unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the key that has been checked.
This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.
In some cases, for security reasons the passphrase might show as asterisks. In this case type a new password and click apply. You will then have to use the same password for all the wireless devices connecting to the network.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

IP addresses are assigned by DHCP service on the router. It works for all laptops, but the phone doesn't get any IP. I believe the association drops before it can even start the process.
It has to be a specific setting or feature of the ZyXEL router maybe that makes it "incompatible" with the BlackBery phone...
