I have been trying to use a monitor off my dads old pc, it worked fine on it (a tiny so its pritty old!) However on every pc and even when hooked up to my laptop the right hand 3rd of the screen is obscured by vertical coloured lines or somtimes jsut darkness. This is obviusly infuriating, any surgestions?
This could be a failure in the screen panel or the matrix driver on the circuit board driving the screen. On rare occasions it could be a bad ribbon connect or cable that feeds the screen. This is not normally something you can fix yourself. You would need the proper service setup and spare parts to try.
Considering if the monitor is out of warranty and is aged it's best to get a new one.
One of 2 possibilities come to mind.
1, The vga chord is loose on the back of the monitor.
2, Your resolution is set too high or low to be displayed.
The blinking light means that the monitor is either not getting or understanding a signal.
Hope this helps.
