Ge mini fridge seems to be overheating

My daughter's dorm mini-fridge gets really hot on the sides. It seems to cool fine but the apparent overheating is worrisome with things in close proximity. Is this dangerous? Should we replace it? Thanks.

The unit should have heat coming off the condenser coils on the back. some of the units have a little fan motor to help cool the condenser. make sure there is plenty of space for air flow around the unit, as this is crucial to normal operation.

It depends on the model. Some models have the condenser coils inbedded in the sides, in which case the sides will get warm. It is probably normal, but you should keep space between the sides and any wall or other object.

My daughter bought back a mini amana fridge it seems too hot on the sides and its on 6 os that normal??

Sorry but I don't recognise the fridge brand. The internet suggests these are not the things called mini fridges but in reality are merely coolers so I guess it is a regular fridge designed to keep stuff between 2 and five degrees C.

Not sure what you mean by 6 os.

Conventional fridge design has a thing at the back that looks like a radiator. This condenser is prone to corrosion and is easily damaged resulting in the loss of refrigerant. Since it was decided all types of refrigerant gas is damaging to our atmosphere, manufacturers have been increasingly burying the radiator thing in the fridge casing where it is protected, often at the sides. Usually the condenser will become quite hot until the fridge interior is down to the required temperature when just maintaining the inside temperature it will vary between warm and cold if the door isn't opened much and the insulation and door seal is in good condition.

Burying the condenser(s) in the casing makes them less efficient at losing heat and so they will become hotter than the conventional old-fashioned design during the interior cooling stage..

I hope this helps and little.

Side by side GE turbo-cool Gss25XSRBSS, the freezer seems to be fine, the fridge is not cooling. Fans seem to be running smoothly, no weird noises. Turbo cool turns on. It hasn't been running for

if you go here you can see the damper, fan assy. that's in the top of your machine in the fresh food side
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Damper/WR49X10091/1055112
this is a damper with another fan in it,when the t-stat calls for cold air the damper door opens to let the cold air in from the freezer and the fan in it blows the cold air around inside the fridge,if the freezer is fine and the fridge side is warm most likely this is your problem, part number WR49X10091 and it's around 130 dollars.unplug the machine, remove the light cover on the ceiling, remove the 1/4 inch screws and drop the light assy.remove thhe filter cover on the right side so you can remove the damper assy.pop off the cover on the piece that runs up the back center, remove the screws to the damper, read the instructions and put it back together again.should take you around 45 to 60 minutes.hope this helps and good luck.

My Fridge is running Hot on the freezer side and the temperature is rising. Ice cream is melting etc. Fridge side seems OK but also not really cold. Which of the the settings on the internal dials 1 to 9...

It sounds like the condenser is dirty. It's under the refrigerator.
This is easy to do. Just get all the dust out of the condenser and things should start cooling down.
I hope this helps. Please leave feedback.
Thank You.

Koolatron Mini Fridge Overheating

Check the condensor fan behind the fridge which is designed to cool the compressor/gas line by blowing air over the condensor. When this fan motor seizes or stops running, the gas gets very hot and because it is skin cooled too, the outside of the fridge also gets very hot. You can overcome the problem temporarily by putting a standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor and under the fridge untill you can have the problem rectified.
