I had the same error code along with the drum "freezing" up. The first unit that was delivered 2 years ago leaked water from the detergent compartment and they sent a second unit. I have only had this unit for 2 years and I am very disappointed in the LG product. LG was no help on the phone and I the only people that could service it were 45min away from were I live. I took the advice of a posting on this website that it could be a part called the sensor assembly (#6501KW2002A) and ordered it from an online electronics store (www.mcminone.com). To get to the sensor assembly, you first unplug and take off the back plate that has 4 small screws. Next, unscrew the big bolt in the middle and take off the hubcap looking part the bolt was securing. Next unclip the two sets of wires on the bottom of the circle you are looking at (the set of wires to the right are connected to the sensor assembly you want to replace). Next you will unscrew the 6 or so smaller bolts to take off the circular piece that the sensor assembly is snapped to. Take it off, unclip the old sensor assembly and clip on the new one – and reassemble. This worked perfectly for me and the part only cost $18 bucks plus shipping. When working, this product works well but I will not be purchasing any LG products in the future.
Look around on this site, I know I've seen some other posts with various tricks to fix this problem. Easiest one (assuming no unbalanced load) is to unplug the machine for a few hours, then try again, seems to work for some people. LG claims this may be due to detergent buildup and running an empty cycle of hot water will help, but I don't really by that. It may also be a bad sensor in the motor, as described in my solution to another question (reposted below)
Definitely sounds like the position sensor is faulty. I had this happen to my WM2277HB recently. Motor would start to turn, then jerk, hum, and not move, eventually gives LE code. Powering down, all the other tips had no effect. Very unlikely that the motor itself is bad if it still turns freely. You could confirm the stator wiring is OK by unplugging it and taking resistance readings across the stator terminals of the 3-pin connector (any combo of two should be 7-15 ohms). I was able to order the part from an online electronics supplier (www.mcminone.com, P/N 6501KW2002A, description is "sensor assembly") and several other places may have it as well. You can download a basic but somewhat helpful service manual here http://136.166.4.200/contents/Laundry/WM2277.htm that has some disassembly instructions and exploded view diagrams, explains the troubleshooting mode. Don't even bother calling LG or a service tech unless it's under warranty. If you're here you probably have some basic repair skills and tools and can easily replace it yourself for about $20. My washer was about a year and a half old when the sensor went out, now it runs great again.
We have had ours for nearly 4 years and had this problem just after the warranty expired (3 years). I KNOW it's not due to soap build-up since I run an empty bleach load (only hot water and a few cups of bleach) about once a week to help with the odor problem. We replaced the motor (sensor was in the motor assembly and it was only a few dollars more to get the motor and not just the sensor) and are STILL having the LE problem. It doesn't happen very often any more, but still happens and we can't seem to resolve the issue. Just a REALLY expensive piece of junk that we bough, I guess!! :-(

Let me share what worked for me...
I started the washing machine and waited for the LE code to appear again. The washer tub filled and then when it was time for the machine to spin the LE code appeared and the washer stopped working. I opened the door and dumped about a quart of bleach in with the water that had accumulated in the bottom. I then unplugged the washer and spun the tub by hand about ten revolutions to mix in the bleach and let the whole thing sit that way for about two hours. When I returned I plugged in the machine and it worked!! So I ran two "sanitary" cycles to clean out all the bleach and it has worked without a problem for about 12 cycles so far.
Hope this helps.
Take the drain hose out of the wall, wipe it off real good, and blow real hard. This will get you through that cycle. Once cycle complete and drained, open bottom left plate, unscrew the drain, catch as much as you can in a cup, clean the rest up off the floor. Clean the filter. Bring in shop vacuum, stick it in this hole and suck out as much that will come out. Wipe up, close the drain, run a sanitary cycle with some bleach and you are good to go.
I just did exactly what Wolfster had reposted and it worked perfectly. My LG Washer would fill with water but not turn the drum then throw a PE error. I chaged the sensor assembly as described and it works like a champ now. We have had this LG washer for 5 years and this is the first fix required. We had the IE error a couple times but I cleaned out the drain and that was taken care of. Thanks for the post Wolfster!
I'm sorry, I did what diyrocks had posted. Bought part from same website as well. Sorry for confusion. Thanks all!

Delighted with this info. My LG washer showed LE error code (motor overload) and drum would not turn. Thought I might need a new stator at cost of £120 but ordered hall sensor at £19.50 and is now running again It was v easy to fit. Part no is 6501KW2001A from www.semenedis.com in Leicestershire.
People mention spinning the drum once or twice. I replaced the sensor and it still didnt work. I was frustrated because I ran the diagnostic mode, checked the stator and everything here there and everywhere.
I spun the drum hard in frustration which typically does the feedback to the display panel. From there on out it has worked fine.
My washer reads code L7 ????? HELP
Brilliant! I had the same problem with the same symptoms so i ordered the hall sensor from mcm as well put it in and $17.70 + s&h later my machine is purring like a kitten once again thanks guys D.
I had the stator changed on my LG washer, water comes in, it washes and pumps and then at the spin cycle, it will not spin and LE code comes on, do you think I should have the rooter or motor changed?
The stator with the sensor assembly had already been changed, however the rotor has many magnets, and the part of one magnet is broken, could that cause it not to spin?

I TOO "HAD" THIS PROBLEM. I ORDERED THE SERVICE MANUAL.
TRY THIS QC TEST:
1. PRESS "SPIN SPEED AND SOIL LEVEL BUTTONS SIMULTANEOUSLY
2. PRESS THE POWER BUTTON,WHILE THE ABOVE CONDITION.THE BUZZER WILL SOUND TWICE.
3. PRESS THE START/PAUSE BUTTON ONCE
4. CYCLE THROUGH THIS BY PRESSING THIS BUTTON slowly FOR ALL STAGES TIL THE DOOR UNLOCKS.
5. PRESTO!
I have been battling the same LE problem for awhile. Changed the sensor and it ran okay. LE comes back for no apparent reason. I have to be very careful with the detergent and softner. The real problem is that I can not get the machine into the test mode anymore. Has anyone fixed that problem?
Does Lg have a service manual for a WM0642HW/01 washer?
Machine worked fine until I moved it from Cal. to TX. Now it won't spin at any other speed than low and makes a growling sound, then shuts off and code LE comes on. even empty on manual spin only cycle it does the same thing. My drier cost $360 to change the rollers, is this going to be another expensive fix or should I just go buy a new GE washer
LE on display on my TROMM washer
le keeps flashing
used these instructions today. totally worked
