Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

My Kenmore Coldspot model 106 top freezer refrigerator is not cold. Three times before, I have unplugged it, let the whole thing defrost, cleaned it out & plugged it back in, & it will work fine for awhile, then after a few weeks the fridge doesn't keep anything cold. It runs, but it's not cooling. Once the freezer and the fridge both stopped cooling/freezing, otherwise it's just the refrigerator. The first time it happened the back of the freezer was a block of ice (took the cover off & made sure it was all melted before turning it back on), but it has not been like that since. Is it worth trying to fix it? Any advice is much appreciated!

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.
