My Maytag Neptune dryer doesn't stop unless I open the dryer door.

You will be needing to replace the timer assembly, which is the part that has all the wires attached and is found inside the top of the machine. It is what the dial is fastened to.
Be blessed.

My Maytag dryer MDE5500AYW is making a rattling noise. It sounds as if it is coming from the rear of the machine. How do I access the insides of the dryer?

I had the same problem but it's the FRONT Panel you need to remove first. Before you start, unplug the thing first. BTW I did the whole proceedure in 2 minutes using an electric screwdiver / philips bit.
To open the dryer front you first take the door off by removing the two philips head screws, then slightly lift the door and pull toward you (the door hinges have little hooks on the end that inserts into the slots (this little design keeps the door from falling off during removal and install-nice). Then remove the two philips screws on the other side of the door opening (opposite the door hinges). These screws hold two plastic brackets (be sure to see how they are aligned before you remove them so you know how they go back on.

Now the front frame panel looks like an "H" . Grab the top two arms of the 'H" and give a quick pull. The top arms of the 'H" will come loose. The bottom part is held by a couple of clips, just pull up and the front panel comes off.

You will be able to see inside, you can also remove the two screws holding the top on (they are in the corners in the front) .

I have a maytag dryer, model # MDG4000BWW. It has...

check the high limit/cycling switch thermostat located on the heat housing ,you will need to remove the front panel to access this, then, bypass the high-limit with a jumper wire and see if the flame stays on longer,if this doesn't help, then check the radiant senser on the tube also they get dirty, you can clean the senser eye or bypass this also and see if its weak,if not then replace the 2 gas coil valves on the gas valve body as these will get weak and shut off the gas supply
