The video and audio connections were made correctly when the RCA DVD player was installed in 2005. All worked fine up until a few weeks ago, when the video signal was lost. I suspect the problem to be with the RCA DVD player, I connected it to the component video connections on another TV, again no video signal. The RCD DVD player must have done something to the component connections on the RCA D52W15 52 in. Also before this problem, while watching a DVD at various parts during the movie the sound would mute for a second or two.
I have replaced the RCA DVD player with a Phillips brand DVD player connected to the video input. I tried connecting it to the Component video inputs and then the S-Video input however there was no picture. Connecting it to the video input I can now watch DVD's again, however the picture quaility is not as good as that of the component input.
My next step is to try and connect the DVD player to the DVI input, I'll let you know the results.

Re: RCA D52W15 52 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready...
The component connections are usually video only and the audio goes to separate connectors set aside for that input. Check your manual to make sure you have all the connections made.

yes and no, if the TV has a VGA port on the back of it then yes, if not no. but you can buy adapters to do this as well. you want to buy a VGA to component or hdmi adapter. these are readily available on eBay and amazon
There are inputs on the back of the set. If your tv is Sony 51ws510 then it is capable of HD, but you have to have component or DVI cables to connect the tv to the HD device (HD cable box or DVD player).

<br>
On your set the component inputs on the back of the tv are video5 and video6 in the middle located in a vertical line (red, green, blue rca video connections with red and white rca audio connections).
<br>
<br>
You also have a DVI input toward at the top of the input panel (white connector with red and white rca audio connectors).
You have several options with your TV depending on your DVD player. The best quality video will be achieved with an HDMI cable if your DVD player has an HDMI output. Next best would be to use a component video connection which consists of 3 RCA cables for video and two for audio. The third option is S video (round connector with pins inside)
cable conections between cable box and tv have to be done across component input (three RCA conectors BLUE GREEN RED for video and white + red for audio)
If you're using a DVD player or other component using the Component cable hookup, try unplugging that from the mix, unplug the power cord for the TV from the wall and wait 15 seconds and plug it back in, then power the TV back on. Mine used to do this and I gave up on the component cable option and went back to composite (RCA).
You have already diagnosed the tuner as the problem,the first thing to check is the conections at the tuner specially the ground conections,the shell of the tuner is the ground and it conects to the chassis by being solder to it,if all conections check ok look for overheated areas.After that is taken care you still have the possibility of having a bad tuner.If you are familiar with tv service this information will help but if you are not too familiar be safe and call for assistance from a servicer.
