I have a
kmhs120ess-5. To find and change the fuse:
1) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE UNIT FROM ITS MOUNTING!
2) unplug the unit or turn off the breaker. Wait 15 minutes to allow capacitors to drain.
3) Remove the Black plastic vent piece from the top-front. This piece sits over the door when it is closed. There will 2 screw holding it in.
4) remove the metal shield on the right side that is now exposed - it is partially behind the control panel on the right. It is held in place by two screws - one on each side of the screw that holds the control panel in place.
5) You can remove the shield in #4 without removing the control panel, but it might be easier to just remove the control panel. It is held in place by one screw - remove that screw and slide the control panel up to release it. It wont go far with the wires still attached, but it will make the panel from # 4 easy to remove.
6) The fuse is now visible at the very back of the cavity now exposed, and is labelled 20 A -250V. Remove it and replace it with a new fast-blow fuse. Home Depot has the replacements - and probably lots of other places.
7) Put everything back in place. For the control panel, position it a little higher than is final place with the tabs in the frame's holes, then slide it down. It will click, then put the one screw back in at the top.
8) When everything is put back together, plug it in or turn the breaker on, and test it.

SOURCE: microwave stopped working completely
Fan turned on after cooking because a thermostat got to hot and tripped turning on the fan to try to cool the unit. The unit went completely dead when thermal fuse tripped which is located above the cavity on the left side.

First, do not leave this machine plugged in until it is serviced. If this is a KHMS155LSS, there is a very high probability that you have a keypad short. This defect can cause the machine to start on its own at ANYTIME; while you are on vacation or at work or at night while you are sleeping etc. Contact Whirlpool Customer Service and ask for Safety Dept immediately. They will most likely send A&E (Sears) out to fix it. Although they will fix the problem, if the keypad fails again, the underlying logic self start defect is still present. You should be under warranty if it is above model. Please be polite, insistent, but polite. With KitchenAid's pathetic quality in recent years, their customer service reps get more then an earful. Also, please go to the Consumer Product Safety Commision website at www.cpsc.gov and post a Report Unsafe Products report. This will help get this model recalled before someone loses their home or life. I almost had a fire this past Monday, Labor Day, 9/7/09 when my machine self started at 3 AM with a package of bacon left in it to thaw at room temp for the morning. What a smokey mess. Chinese made garbage. Shame on Whirlpool. Long live Hobart!, please buy back KitchenAid and bring back the lost quality.

I have the same issue and the same unit. I wonder if there's a recall...
SOURCE: KitchenAid Wall and Microwave Oven Combo - KEMS308SSS
After using the microwave for a month, the amount of time to heat has increased significantly. For example, 1 cup water now takes 3 minutes to reach 158 deg and 4 min-40 sec to reach boiling (212 deg)
This model KEMS308SSS02 was installed in July 2008 in a new condo. It was never used until Feb. 2011 when we moved in as the first owners.
Any advice would be appreciated.
