If these problems started immediately after a lightning storm, the printed circuit board is probably damaged. Contact a garage door service company (check the phonebook) for diagnostic support.
Charley,
You aren't giving me much information to go on, but I can tell you this: Working on garage doors can be dangerous, especially if you need to make adjustments to the springs that counteract the weight of the door. First thing to do is to see if the door operates manually OK. Pull on the rope that disengages the electric opener from the door and see if the door operates OK manually. If it's a real struggle to operate manually you should call a garage door service company. If it operates without too much difficulty, then the problem may be with your electric opener. After you do the manual test, provide some more info and maybe we can help you.
The buttons inside the vehicle are syncronized/programmed with the operatus that physically opens and closes your garage door, not the operner... The garage door opener needs to have a "programming" feature switch that must be set to "programming" before you can program the buttons inside the car...
There are step by step instructions in your owners manual... This could be a 2 person operation...
I have a 2004 RX and had the same problem, simply because I didn't follow the instructions precisely..
You might have a broken spring. Check on the a the header above the door there should be a tube with a drum on each end and 2 springs (maybe one) towards the center. If one of the springs has a gap (1-2 inches) in it. If it does you will need to call a door company in your area. I recommend you replace both springs. If you need to get you cars out some times you can help the operator to lift the door by lifting the door while the operator is lifting the door. Be very careful not to get your fingers in a pinch point and be sure to lower the door the same way.
The lights are suppost to be yellow (power to photo eyes) and green (lined up). 1.Check to see if the door is running correctly. A. Run the door down and pull the emergency release. See if the door will run easily by itself. 1. If it runs hard by hand try lubricating the rollers and hinges with silicone spray or some form of lubricant (not WD 40) 2. If the door is heavy and falls back to the ground, you probably have a spring issue (either broken or needs more tension) in this case call a professional door repair company in your area. B. If the door runs fine then check the up force on your operator (the box that hangs from the ceiling). If the light bulb(s) on your operator are on the front and/or back, the force adjustment screw is on the back of the operator. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the force adjustment screw is on the right side (looking from the back of the operator and facing the garage door). Turn the light blue adjustment screw with the up arrow to a higher number.
