Hi Petra, if the unit is not filling with water you most likely need a new fill valve. If it does fill with water and doesn't start to wash it could be a bad motor. Third option could be a bad control board/keypad,where it's not allowing the unit to cycle because it's not recognizing the command being input. Without the specific model number those are the top 3 common problems with dishwashers. Would call a local repair company to diagnose the unit and save yourself some headaches. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: Asko D1796 will not start properly

It sounds as if you may have A bad control board. It could be causing the heater element to come on when its not supposed to (usually a stuck relay) and not filling the machine with water. you could also have a bad control board AND a bad fill valve, as a stuck relay for the heater shouldn't affect the fill valve circuit. The bad news is that these asko control boards are $350 to $450 for just the part, the good news is that the control board is under a 5 year warranty (for only the part, not the labor to change it) as are the pump motors and any timers. Also, if you are just out of warranty, find your date of installation, as asko warranties start when you install it, not when you buy it (if you moved into the house and it was there when you moved in, and you are the first owner, submit a date of occupancy and that's when your warranty started)

SOURCE: Washer won't start

First of all, does the washer make a distinctive "click" when you push the START button? This is an indication that your door latch is locking (or at least making an attempt to lock). Normally, however, the display would have an "fdl" fault code indicating a door lock failure if it were bad. I have seen the latch go bad and not register a fault code, though. You can perform this simple diagnostic test to see if any fault codes register: 1. Select DRAIN/SPIN 2. Under SPIN SPEED select NO SPIN 3. Then, under OPTIONS push the PREWASH button 4 times. You should hear the door latch click then "C00" will show on the display. The washer will begin a series of tests (C01...C05 - depending on options and model) by testing the hot and cold fill valves, the various dispenser compartments, followed by tumble, drain and spin. If there is something wrong the diagnostic test will abort and a fault code will be displayed. The washer usually beeps when it displays a fault code. If you attempt to perform the diagnostic and the display momentarily flashes after you press the PREWASH button the fourth time and goes out, this can also be a symptom of bad door latch. You need to perform these simple steps first in order to further diagnose. Let me know what you come up with.

check the lid switch under the lower board they rust and the fault is normally not starting,or the display board can rust inside near the start/pause button if so try and unsolder a button you dont use and replace the start button.

SOURCE: GE Washer spin cycle not working

If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • The lid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn't spin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.

if this helps please vote me a fix ya

My maytag clothes washer Bravo quiet series 300, keeps flashing a Sd error code. Or it may be 5d

What does the Sd code mean?

This code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the wash action and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Concentrated detergents labeled 2x and higher will require a small amount of detergent based on load size. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Use only HE High Efficiency detergent for BravosTM washers.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is flashing?

This indicates the washer was not able to clear all the excess suds from the washer. Re-select your desired cycle using cold water. Press Start/Pause. Do not add detergent.

Is "Sd" displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing?

If "Sd" is displayed and the wash cycle dial is not flashing, allow the machine to continue running, even if it appears that nothing is happening. When "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the wash action will pause to allow the bubbles in the suds to break, and the washer will add water for better rinsing. This rinsing process is necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds.

Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?

Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Straighten the hose for adequate water flow. Remove any blockage from the drain hose, drainpipe or utility sink. Use the U-shaped drain hose form on the drain hose, and secure the drain hose.

To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.

If Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel does not work:

  1. Unplug the washer or disconnect the power for one minute.
  2. Plug in the washer or reconnect the power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start/Pause.

NOTE: If the error remains on the display, and all of the other questions above have been checked, call for service.

Do you have any error codes?

Does water remain in the washer after the final spin?
If water remains in the washer after the final spin, then the door will not unlock. Drain/Spin or Spin Only to remove any remaining water from the washer. The door should unlock at the end of the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light on?

Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light off?
If the Add A Garment light is off, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed twice. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high-water level in the washer, high-water temperature, tumbling or spinning. It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.
If Pause/Cancel does not work:
  1. Unplug washer or disconnect power for one minute.
  2. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start.
