Sounds like the belt under the machine is either broken or off the motor/pulleys. Empty the tub, turn off water, disconnect the power. Pull unit away from wall, tip it back so you can look underneath (Make sure to put blocks under machine so it doesn't fall on your head)Find the old belt to get the size. To replace the belt, put it on the motor pulley, the on the large pulley, then the small one. The motor mount is usually under spring tension.

diagnosis by someone who knows. What William Burk says there makes sense. However, to get to the drive block there's quite a bit of disassembly required. I am stopped because I cannot get the spanner nut off. Hope this gives you some help toward finding a more comprehensive answer
