Here are the steps to properly install the spring in a Shakespeare Synergy 2001S reel:
Remove the spool from the reel.
Locate the bail wire assembly on the side of the reel.
Take the spring and slide it onto the bail wire assembly. The smaller end of the spring should be facing towards the reel.
Hold the spring in place and reattach the spool to the reel.
Test the reel by pulling the line out and then closing the bail. The spring should be under tension and hold the bail in place.
If the spring is not holding the bail in place or is not properly installed, the reel may not function correctly. If you are having difficulty installing the spring, it may be helpful to consult the owner's manual or a professional for assistance.
I don't think there is an ajustment on the bail...... they are normally spring operated, you can adjust or replace the spring to get the bail to close Easter or not as easy. It's best to always open and close the bail by hand anyways. This puts less wear on your overall reel.
