I would guess, it has been over 50 years since I worked with a carburetor. It sounds like the one shot pump has a bad seal. This pump injects a shot of fuel when the accelerator is pressed. I hope this helps.

i used to own a yz426f and it had the exact problem... a fresh plug will fix your problem. change the plug and the bike will run great. also don't start the bike and shut it off , my bike would be fine if i started it and rode for a while getting to the proper heat range help save the plug. if my bike didn't start in one or two kicks it was usually the plug.

hope this helps

After you dump the fuel in the throttle body it will continue to run on its own or die as soon as it burns up all the fuel you dump in? Do you have access to (Noid lights)? Are both plugs attached to the distributor?

If it is under 2 years old, I would take it to a warranty repair center. The carburetor have been giving some problems so they have needed to be replaced because they are sub standard quality.

remove the lift pump and make sure its not on the back of the cam ,it will never work like this ,then remove the pipe from the carb end and try putting some fuel down it to prime and wet the valves inside the pump ,if that doesnt work check for a porous pipe froim the tank to the metal pipe that runs to the pump ,if that doesnt work then look inside the tank ?

Have you checked your fuel filter?
Have you checked to see if fuel is getting into the carbs?

Also is your machine parked outside and is it below freezing? It happens to me often when my machine sits for a while. Water in the fuel freezes at the carbs or in the filter and won't allow fuel to get through. I put a little ceramic heater under the cowling and cover it with a couple old blankets. It usually does the trick in a couple hours. Then I run some fuel cleaner though it. g'luck

Yamaha ef 2800 i, fresh fuel, cleaned carb, major surge with eco. switch on, slight search, no load with eco. switch off. near perfect under 75% load. output steady 119.9 to 120.00 volts.

I hope you have not moved the genny from lower to high altitude b cause the carbs of these gen sets are tuned at the sea level and they give their best performence up to 1000 meters or so in altitude from sea level if you hav'nt moved the generator then check the air fuel mix screw on the carb that screw controls the the oxygen supply required inside to burn the appropriate quantity of fuel take a screw driver and adjust by rotating it anticlockwise on idle with eco switch on then put it on 75%load and try adjusting the screw both ways clockwise and anticlockwise with switching the load on and off with eco throttle off you will find a point where the engine will run smooth but mind it the screw has to be moved very slowly either side usualy these problems accur on high altitudes when the oxygen suppy goes less then the jet in the carb is to be reduced and air fuel mix has to be adjusted which is called re jetting of the carb You say you have cleaned the carb may be accidently while cleaning the air fuel mix screw might got disturbed just check

Not getting gas to motor

1.It could possibly be a plugged fuel tank screen or fuelfilter
Motor cycles depend on gravity flow of fuel from the gas tank to the carb so there (in most cases won't be a fuel pump).
2. Check the choke on the carb. Most are automatic now. If it is closed that is ok on a cold day but it shouln't be but only slightly when starting it on a hot day if at all..
3. If the motor is flooded you may want to pull the plugs and clean the excess gas then (easy on a bike not recommended for a car) put the plugs back in and try to start it. If it starts you are probably good to go unless it continues to happen than it may be new fuel pump time.
4. The float in the caberator itself may be stuck or the port that allows the flow of gas into the carb.may be plugged. .
5. Even before doing that Iyou might want to remove the air filter and where you see the inlet to the carb put a little gas to primer it (the carb).
See if the motor will start, If it starts and continues to run it is definately getting gas.
Summary: If it does not start or runs only on the gas you primered the carb with troubleshoot from least expensive to most expensive The best thing to do is start with the hose at the gas tank and work your way to the carb (gas tank to carberator) You might save yourself some money.

Car was running good, parked for a year now it won't start unless you pour gas in carb

It is most Likely your fuel pump, or possibly a clogged fuel filter. I had the same problem on my grand am, put in a new pump and that solved it.

I have husqvarna 136 that won't start. If you put gas in carb it will start but won't keep running.

Replace the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of leaking, if so replace the line, between the cylinder and the carb back plate is a rubber induction tube, make sure this has no split.

Engine surges won't run with out choke and then it stalls

If the engine surges and won't run without choke it is starving for fuel. Best place to start is the fuel filter. After the fuel filter, pull the fuel line off of the carburetor and place a container under the fuel line to catch the fuel. Crank the engine over and watch for the amount of fuel being pumped through the line. There should be a good stream of fuel with each pulse from the pump. Chances are the pump diaphragm is getting weak and it cannot keep enough fuel in the carb to run proper. Check those items and let me know if it helps, Daniel.

I just got a 1997 yamaha virago 1100. It will not idle unless I leave the choke on and the engine revs at 3000 rpm. Runs perfect after 3000 rpm. Any ideas? Original factory carb settings? Thanks

Hi, Ungerconstru and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Vacuum line from the petcock to intake manifold cracked.
5. Float needle and seat sticking.
6. Float level too low.
7. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
8. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
10. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
11. Slow fuel jet clogged.
12. Faulty fuel pump.

sounds like the float level height is set a little low. you might have accidently readjusted the setting. just raise the float level height a little bit and you should be okay.

All generators need to be run once a month. All things from the tank to the and including the carb will get gummed up with dried out fuel. I have a whole house generator and a 5500 watt gen set on my motor home. I keep fresh fuel in the stand alone house generator in California in case of a bad earthquake. I drain the gas after every run and keep all vehicles full of fuel just in case. Run gen sets at least once a month or pay pay pay!!
