First, set the manual control loose until a lure will pull line (just falling from a horizontal rod position) and the reel stops within a half turn or so..NO backlash!.. now the reel is ready to cast... start with the magnet all the way tight...it might not cast too far...thats ok! start loosen the magnet...two clicks first..see how it cast..then one click at a time...I run all my reels magnets at half or LESS!!. The mechanical brake does the work.. loosen it til you start backlashing ..then tighten back as you go..
Different lures - different weights - different line size - wind - ALL affect you ability to cast...

Schematic on a TSC10SA BAIT CASTING

I'm sorry, I don't have information on a specific TSC10SA bait casting reel. However, most baitcasting reels have similar components and can be reassembled in a similar manner. Here are some general steps you can follow to reassemble your reel:
  1. Place the spool back into the reel frame.
  2. Insert the spool shaft into the spool and secure it with the spool retainer.
  3. Place the side plate back onto the reel frame, making sure the spool shaft and spool retainer are in the correct position.
  4. Insert the brake adjustment knob and secure it with the knob screw.
  5. Insert the thumb bar and secure it with the thumb bar screw.
  6. Place the handle back onto the reel and secure it with the handle screw.
  7. Tighten all screws and make sure the spool spins freely.
It's always a good idea to consult the manufacturer's manual for specific instructions and diagrams on reassembling your reel. If you have lost the manual, you can often find one online by searching for the make and model of your reel.

Abu garcia silver max reel manual

those are your magnetic cast control. it is a magnetic braking system. i suggest setting it at "5" and dont adjust unless you are casting into the wind, if that is the case turn it up to towards maximum and keep your casts low to the water and use heavy baits. its a great tool to help eliminate backlash.

How do you cast the reel so the spool dosent continue to unwind after the cast

On the side of the reel there is a knob that you adjust for the spooling. As a rule of thumb you adjust it so when you have a lure on,click the release button and let it spool out,it will only drop about 4 feet. Now! tighten it a fraction.Start casting and it will not go very far.Just before the lure hits the water, you put your thumb on the spool.Hard at first and then less as you get used to it.You can then adjust the spooling knob to go a bit further every time. You use your thumb on the spool to adjust the last 10 feet of line.Use a lure with no hooks on it to practise. It's called a plug.Hope this helps and you reel in the big one's

Have a new Daiwa Exceler 100H reel with no paperwork, instructions or feature description. Can you help?

What do you want to know? How to set it up for first time?
1. Spool on some line (start w/mono is not familiar w/bait casters)
2. Installl reel on a rod
3. Set the mag brake to 0
4. Tighten the Cast control nut (next to the star shaped drag control) so it's tightened all the way (don't go crazy and use a lot of force, just set it to the tightest position)
5. Tie on a 3/8 - 1/2 Oz weight or lure - Lure/weight should NOT move at all when you let it go
6. SLOWLY loosen the Cast-control nut (very slowly) until the lure/weight drops slowly about 1/2 turn of the spool
7. Set the Magnetic brake to 5
8. Go practice casting and adjust cast-control and mag brake as needed until you can go without a birdsnest, and you don't ahfve to use all the much thumb control to stop the spool at the end of the cast
9. Practice, practice, practice...

This is what I got from a Daiwa Rep at the Eastern Fishing Expo this weekend in Worcester, Ma and I'll be doing exactly these steps once it warns up enough to go our and play with the new reel and rod (Quantum Energy PT Med/Hvy (6'6").
Peace,
Shepp
