The wire or part of it may be inside the string head. Remove cover and check.

SOURCE: troy built weed eater won't feed line

Check the size of the line,(OD), make sure you are using the correct size, sometimes cheap line will be problematic, also, you said you are re-stringing it, try a new batch of string, the old string inside the hub can get chaffed and will stick to itself...

Sounds like the clutch has taken a long trip south. If the clutch pads are not wore out, try some wd40 on the pad hinges.

My string keeps going back into and catching underneath the spool. How can I stop this?

Trimmer cord can become brittle and break off prematurely, the material can absorb water and become more flexible, so you should store any new cord in a bucket of water to keep it flexible,

Starting procedure

Terry: According to eHow.com:

"
  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

How to change the fule line of weed eater?

There should be clamps on either end of the fuel line..1.. empty the fuel out of the weed wacker ..2..loosen the clamps..3..remove the hose ..make sure you are careful when replacing any fuel lines..so you dont puncture a brand new one..tighten the clamps good but not too hard or you can pucturethe hose that way too and make sure its the right one for that model. make sure the line is also fuel resistant..gasoline can eat through the wrong type of line. You should be able to buy the fuel line and clamps at any hardware store:)remember to ask for help from someone in the right department

I need to replace wire on an electric weed eater auto feed 15 inch

    Hi deanko1

1 Press the lock and rotate the spool counter-clockwise or some will remove the center knob.
2 Remove the locking ring if your weed eater has one.
3 Take off the automatic feed button.
4 Wipe away any dirt and debris.
5 Push down on the spool to release the locking tabs.
6 Remove the spool from the chamber.

    Restringing the Weed Eater
1 Feed one end of the line into one of the holes of the spool, and secure the end that was inserted
2 Wrap the line in the direction of the arrows. Do this until until you fill the spool up with line.
3 Secure each of the lines into its own upper and lower grooves.
4 Re-install the spool into the chamber from which it was removed.
5 Pass the lines into the left and right holes and snap the spool into place.
6 Once the spool is in its sleeve and fed into its left and right eye holes, pull both ends simultaneously.
7 Reinstall the locking ring if necessary, reinstall the center knob.
