Recently started making a grinding noise found the motor coupling broken, replaced it. When restarted it agitated as normal for a few minutes but then agitator stopped and won't spin. Still pumps out OK.
SOURCE: Kenmore Washing Machine won't agitate, spin, or drain
The problem sounds like the motor to transmission coupler. If it is not draining or spinning you may find that the lid switch is inop.

remove cap,,or fabric softner dispencer..pull straight up..look down in the agitator you will see a plastic cover,,pull it straight up...now your looking at the agitator dog cam assmbly..thats a 1/2 in nut there,,remove it you will need a nut driver or wrectet...now just pull the hold agitator up...be careful not to lose the agatitor dogs..onthejob

Coupler between the motor and gearcase is broken...Remove end caps and phillips screws from console. Pull console and flip up..Unplug lid switch and remove gold looking clips on both sides. (push screwdriver strait down and press away from you)..Pull cabinet towards you and remove. Pump is in middle of front by floor..Remove 2 clips with flat head and pull off. ( leave hoses on pump). Remove 2 1/4" screws and remove motor clips with flathead. Motor will fall so hold hand under it. Check plastic and rubber coupler between motor shaft and trans. I guarantee, its broken or worn out..
open the lid and get a model #, sound like all you need is agit dogs # 80040. then remove top of the agitator, could be a softener dispenser. under that you will find a plastic cap, pull up with needle nose pliers. under that you will find a 7/16 or 1/2 bolt, remove the bolt and the agitator can be lifted off. the agitator can now be split into to pieces, turn the top half over and the assy with the agit dgs will fall out. simply replace and reassemble and DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN BOLT. just snug it up. should be fine.
