General Electric Side x Side Fridge Mod # TFX25JRBAWW Water Filter
SOURCE: using without water filter
The effort it would take to eliminate filter would be too much. Just leave filter in place. If new house filter is working right you should never have to replace fridge filter and your water will be double-filtered :)

Does it leak from the back or the front of the appliance ??

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

Attach flexable rubber line from water bottle, like is used for race bicycle riders,or tape up a hose to a water bottle. Turn off valve at water pipe leadign to line to filter. Remove filter. place a pan to catch water under the machine. Attach A small diameter hose to water line where water exits to glass. With machine turned on and your rubber hose attached turn bottle upside down and squeeze while pressign glass lever. Flush through approximate one quare or until water stream is clear. Their is no pumb ofor flow the line preaure is al that moves the water so backflushing is easy.

I have had the same problem with the same model several times in the past. It also happens to me within a few days of replacing the water filter.
In my case, I believe the water line in the freezer door has become frozen. I usually let the freezer thaw for a couple of hours, and my water works again.
I have had constant problems with this model. I would recommend trying to sell your fridge now while it's still running, before the real headaches begin (mine has died 2x in the past six months, and I have not even had it for 2.5 years yet). No more GE's in my house.
