Installed a new pegasus tub faucet (bamboo handle) and it leaks from the shower head when you turn the water on going to the tub. When you pull out the diverter for the shower it works fine with no leaks from the tub faucet but when you go back to the tub it starts spraying from the faucet again as well as the tub faucet. This is the second one that we have installed and had the same problem with both. Adjusting the water mixer didnt help. Any ideas?
Seems a little low in bathroom but is fine in kitchen. Replummed whole house with 3/4 pvc and cpvc before installation but dropped down to 1/2 inch going to faucets. There should be a dirverter on the tub spout. It will be either a knob to pull up or a ring to pull down on and hold untill the water comes out the shower head.
If there is no dirverter go buy a new tub spout with one.. The prior owners may have installed the wrong spout.
its because that model usually when u pull for the shower is not properly connected. You will have to remove handle and coverplate, then shine flashlight down to see what is happening when pulling rod on tub spout for shower. Usually its broken or bent and just needs new one installed. It cost me 2 buck for new shower rod. Directions u can get free from Moen with free lifetime parts.
check the tub faucet the pull lever maybe slightly faulty causing back pressure in line and pushing water up to shower head --u may have debris in tub line causing partial blockage -or u have alot of water pressure coming in and it is to much for the lines to handle and it is pushing up to shower head
The only possible explaination is that the water is finding it easier to go up than down. Water is lazy, just like me. ;)
Use an allen key to remove the tub spout. It's underneath and awkward. Once the allen key is loose, the spout just slides off. Try running the water. This may solve your problem and all you'll need is a new tub spout. If not.....
Turn the water off to the house.
Use an allen key to remove the handle.
Use a phillips to remove the trim plate (2 screws). Cut the silicone around the trim if it's there (which, in a proper installation it shouldn't be, but...)
Unscrew the nut (usually chrome) holding the cartridge into the brass body of the valve. The cartridge pulls straight out. Check for restriction in the ports of the cartridge itself. Check for restriction in the line going down to the tub spout. If you can't find anything, replace the cartridge.
Remove hot/cold button in handle, remove screw/pull off handle. Remove the two screws in the wall plate/remove plate. Use a wrench to remove the diverter assembly. Get new diverter assy and reinstall eveything. You don't need to turn off the water.
