The Sony Playstation 3 suffers from software bugs like any other device. These bugs can cause the PS3 to freeze during game play, which takes away from the overall experience of using the PS3 hardware. In order to combat these bugs, Sony software team frequently sends out PS3 software updates that will defuse any major bugs as they arise.
Go to the official Sony Playstation 3 update website and download the latest PS3 software update. Each update that Sony releases fixes bugs and adds new features.
Connect a USB flash drive or memory card to your computer and create a folder inside of the USB drive or memory card named "PS3." Create a folder inside of that named "Update."
Save the downloaded PS3 update file inside of the "Update" folder on the USB flash drive or the memory card.
Pull the USB flash drive or the memory card out of the computer and connect it to your PS3. Select the "System Update" option from the PS3 main menu.
Select "Update via Storage Media" from the next screen and press the "X" button to install the latest PS3 update on your machine. This will fix any software bugs that are preventing your PS3 from working properly.
Do you have the music files in the PSP music folder. If not, it will not read that there are any files there. Do you have the latest update? If so, under the system settings, there is an option that says, Enable WMA playback. Turn this on. If this doesn't help, you can either get the same music in MP3 format, as the PSP system has no problem with, or transcode said WMA files into MP3 format. There are many programs you can get to do this, but the simplest way is to use any multimedia player on your PC and rip said music files in MP3 format, as they will allow for said selection, then move them to the Music folder on your PSP memory stick.
Chances are it's a hard drive saving problem, since it can still read blu-ray games.If this really bothers you, then save all data you want to save (game data, game saves, music, photos, etc.) then do a complete system restore, update again if it's still doing it then you know it's a HDD problem. But if it's still under warranty call up sony and they will set up with a fixed unit.

You are covered by a 12 month warranty from Sony it sounds like the laser is not reading the discs but check to see if the auto start feature is turned on in the settings menu as then the game will automatically start when the disc is inserted

I have this same problem. Plays music CDs fine but DVDs do not work. It recognises the DVD tries 3 times to play it displaying "Reading" and then moves on to the next available disk. Any suggestions?
