Could be a bad breaker, A blown fuse on the generator (would be wired into the wiring of the alternator and taped up), bad connection on generator wiring or faulty generator wire. You may or may not need to replace the generator assembly.

SOURCE: Honda ems 4000 generator starts and runs great, but no power

At the controller, you need to see if it is actually sending electricity out of the Generator/Alternator, have a look where the leads from the power making unit mates, (Think of it as a motor in reverse) onto the board. There should be an AC Voltage there, then, work back, or out from there, trace the Voltage until it stops, thats the problem... Check the Breaker isn't tripped or faulty too.

Those voltage readings MAY be normal.

The AC waveform may cause your meter to read inaccurately. You would need to use a TRUE RMS meter to accurately read the voltage.

The siple meters actually read the AVERAGE voltage and then are calibrated to mulltiply it by the "form factor" for a sine wave. OFTEN these generators don't produce a clean sine wave. A square-ish wave will read higher on the garden variety meters.

Compare the brightness of a lamp comparing to when run on your utility.

The frequency depends on engine speed ... yours is running a bit fast...check it under at least half load and if off, adjust the govenor slightly.

The plunger is stuck where the governor rod which is spring attached to the frame is. If you locate the governor metal rod on the lower level of the unit. zrock it to a higher rpm as you would a car carburator from under the hood.
This will free the plunger and the green light will go on and your current meter will register 120 volts.

When you lay up the generator for quite some time it often sticks closed. With monthly start up you will no have this problem reoccurr.

I have a 7500 w Black Max generator not producing power and it only has 6.2 hours on it.

This small amount is used to create an electromagnet. As the engine begins to turn this electromagnet, moving its electric field, through the stator windings, your generator will produce more power. However, if residual magnetism is lost, your generator will produce no power at startup.

My 3250 watt will not send out any power. I have checked the reset.

Craig, The loss of residual magnetism may be your problem. You may have to flash/magnetize the generator. There are a few methods of restoring a generators residual magnetism. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Coleman 3500 with subaru engine no power to outlets

Hello there.
I'm assuming that engine runs fine. if there's no power output then the AVR or carbon brushes are dead. remove the back cover of the alternator very carefully and look at the center to find the rotor rings and check if the plastic brush holder hasn't melt or heat deformed and make sure the brushes make good contact against the rotor rings. if everything's fine then the AVR is dead. The AVR is a crescent shaped plastic container similar to this one.

replace it with any similar found on Ebay, just make sure that connectors and cables are similar in shape and number. Regards

Honda generator motor runs but no electricity.

You should open the back cover of the alternator, take a voltage meter and check for voltage if there is no voltage then check the brush if the brush is ok then change the avr .

Generac 5250 with a 8 hp Honda engine. Runs fine, no output

Take a resistance reading across the brushes with and Ohm meter. (not running) You should read a low resistance. If you have no resistance across the brushes then then either the brushes are not mating with the armature or the the armature is open.
IF you have resistance then the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) in the endcap has failed. With the engine running and the Brush block disconnected you should have 4 - 12 VDC on the two wires going to the brush block. No voltage = bad AVR.

The generator runs fine but is not producing power

you will have to check the alternator and look for a pair of carbon brushes it may or may not have them if it does check them to make sure they are not worn too short

also if the windings are not burnt out look for an avr which could aslo have gone.
if it doesnt have an avr or brushes then the diodes may have gone on the armature or the capacitor

98 HONDA CIVIC WON'T START(160,000mi)

the battery is no good have an AVR test done,if it is good there is a fusible link that goes to the feedback circuit on the alternator in alot of cars.if the alternator went,it could have blown the fuse link.if you put a charged up battery in there it will run quite a while. but the battery could have been bad and thats what took out the alternator...the other thing you may want to look for is something draining the battery, disconnect the terminal, and put a current meter in series.it should be 1 to 2 milliamps only.sometimes a glovebox light, trunk light etc, drains the battery.
