Why do you need to update the machine ? To update you need a canon support tool and the specific firmware for that model ( both are very difficult to find) most part of the times updates doesn't correct the problem

Try downloading the firmware update tool from the cannon website otherwise. The unit likely has a bad SCNT board. There is no method for forcing an update while stuck in BIOS Mode. Canon part #: FM4-1273. MSRP is $335.87 if you buy new from an Canon Authorised Service Facillity (ASF).
