Addition to my question: All other stitches on all cams work well on Viking vintage 6030. Just the straight stitch is slightly off

Sounds like the needle bar is slightly off center. Take it for service.

SOURCE: Sewing machine straight stitch is not straight

Hey. It's full out possible that you have it on the right setting...but concider this - the switcher inside the sewing machine could be broken (ie. It's moving to different stitches - but not the one you have the outside set for)

It happened to me (pc o crap singer model)

SOURCE: Stitch is uneven, not straight, and tension off on top and bottom

on my industrial machine this was caused by the wrong size needle. the length was off just a fraction. just an idea, in case you bought generic needles or something.

SOURCE: Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

My singer 6160 needle is not centered anymore. It is slightly to the left. Can I readjust to be centered once again?

yes, those needle bars can be adjusted. try switching from buttonhole maker to straight stitch. When making buttons it will move to one side or the other, if no button hole maker, switch to zig zag and back to get the needle to reposition.

My needle keeps breaking because it's hitting the square part of the presser foot that it goes down into.

If your machine has multiple needle positions, make sure the needle is set in the center position. Also, make sure you are using a zig-zag presser foot where the opening is wide enough to accommodate an off-center needle or to make decorative stitching. If you are using a straight-stitch foot, then the foot will have only a small circular hole in the center and the machine must be set for straight-stitch only.

It the needle still hits, then the needle bar may be off-kilter. Take it for service.

How do I adjust the needle position for straight sewing?

The stitch Width selection regulates straight-stitch or zig-zag width. Needle position does not determine straight or zig-zag. Needle position just determines whether the needle's home position is center, left, or right. Needle position can be used with straight or zig-zag stitching.

Model 930.Why is presser foot not lined up correctly?

Is your needle position centered? The round dial on the top right is a combination zig-zag stitch width selector and the center silver dial selects the needle position. If it is pointed at the #2, then the needle should be centered and something (probably the needle bar) has been knocked out of alignment on your machine (which would probably mean repair service).

Also, if the needle is hitting the presser foot, you probably have a straight stitch foot on your machine which requires the needle be centered. To do any decorative or zig-zag stitching, the presser foot needs to have a wide space for the needle to swing back and forth. The zig-zag foot is marked with a zero.

Needle needs adjustment slightly to right, it is hitting left side of hole on baseplate.

There is an eccentric built into the needle bar frame that center your needle right were you want it. Adjust zig-zag at max, or just center the needle in the center of the needle hole.

ZIG-ZAG NOT WORKING

Make sure your presser foot is tight down. If the needle is going from side to side, it's doing it's job. If the stitches are coming out straight, the material is probably slipping back and forth to center area. The presser will eliminate this.

How do you set the zig zag stitch on a Jones sewing machine. Iam setting the stitch size on the zig zag button but can only get it to sew in a straight line

Change the needle first it may be slightly bent, if you are sewing on fabric that creates static you will need a special needle, failing that you may need to retime the machine.

Suddenly zig zag stitch not working?

Because it is almost a straight stitch but the needle continues to move in a zig zag fashion is reason to believe it is in a long stitch. By changing the number of stitches per inch there will be a very noticeable looking zig zag stitch.
